Going to new posts

I haven't seen this mentioned, so I'm wondering if it is only me who has this problem. On long, multi-page threads, having more than 50 posts, when I try to go to just the new posts by clicking on that number, I am taken to the top of the first page of that thread. No problem on short, single-page threads. Then, when I click on the new posts number, I am taken just to the new posts which have a "new" in red.

Am I doing something wrong for the long threads? I'm using Firefox, if that makes a difference.

Some threads act this way if I have gone in and unpublished something inside the thread. I am not sure why the software behaves this way, it is just part of the way it works.

Miss POI

.

But it is doing it for me on ALL multi-page threads.

Jon has informed me that the

Jon has informed me that the forum software that we use has a bug in it and if you are using the recent posts or just using the discussion forum listings clicking on the number new is not going to get you to where you want to be.

If you use the unread post feature you will be able to get to the most recent comments that you have not read yet.

OK

I'll try that, thanks.

Same issue - same fix

Yep. It was driving me crazy. This is definitely unusual forum software........

I've found that the suggested work around seems to do the trick though.

I always use "unread posts"

The "Unread Posts" option works quite consistently and takes me to the last post that I have read, even in longer multi-page topics.

Where I HAVE seen a bug is when I respond in a longer topic. After saving my response, it takes me back to Page 1, Post 1, not to the end as it should. I think it is only on the longer multi-page posts that it does this.

Yep........

I also find that to be pretty unusual behavior. I end up on page 1 instead of page 8 where I made my post. Very odd indeed.

Since this thread still only

Since this thread still only has 1 page, clicking on the "unread" link brings you here. But as soon as we talk enough to move to more pages, the feature seems to stop working sad

Nope -- Unread Posts continues to work. It is only when you make a post that it takes you to page 1.

So you're saying that if a multi-page thread such as the Google Maps thread has a new post, and you click on the unread link, it takes you to page 5 (or where ever the first unread is)??

It takes me to page 1 sad

Further details...I click

Further details...

I've never used the "Unread posts" link, I do it a bit differently.

I click on the "Recent Posts" link, and then the "My Recent Posts" tab. There I'm presented with threads I've participated in. New posts are indicated with a link to "X new". On single-page threads, this link takes me to the first unread post. On multi-page threads, it takes me to page 1.

This may be the "bug" aforementioned.

Works for me

Yes, that is how it works for me. The OP is at the top of each page and occasionally I will see somebody confused and responding to the new post on pg 2, not realizing all their questions have been answered on pg1 -- they think they are the 3rd poster on the thread when they are really the 53rd. So I'm sure I'm not the only person for whom it works.

Are you sure you are using "Unread Posts". I would think this utility would be independent of browser and totally controlled by the site. Anybody not using this option and setting their preferences is making extra work for themselves.

I don't use the "Unread

I don't use the "Unread posts" feature, because I'm typically interested only in those threads that I'm participating in. When looking for a new thread to participate in, I typically choose from the "Active Topics".

Sounds like I'm confusing some issues/features, but at my age, that's easy smile

That's the way it works for me

For me, it always goes to the last unread post, no matter how many pages. The only time it goes back to page 1 for me is if I post a reply and only if it's a multi-page topic. I think this is being done via cookies. So maybe your browser settings have an effect on this behavior. I'm using IE6.

"New" Posts

Ahh, thanks Dminz for posting your problem. I've been experiencing this myself and debating posting about it. Glad to learn its a known bug.
