Samsung Cell not compatible with GPS 660

I just purchased the GARMIN 660 and tried to sync-up with my cell (Samsung-sch a870) - I contacted GARMIN's help desk who said if it is not on their Web-Site as an accepted unit then I am out of luck (not those words exactly). I was just advised to wait with no idea of knowing if it is on a to-do list.

Anybody know how to find out about which cells will be added and when - are there any work-arounds.

.

What steps did you follow when trying to pair the phone?

My phone isn't on the list but pairs just fine with my Zumo.

I have found that I need to let the phone find the GPS unit and not the other way around. Basically I treat the GPS unit as if it is always in "discoverable" mode.

Garmin Cell Support is Awful

I have a Samsung m500.

I can get it paired, but it takes about 20 minutes of trying and trying and trying and trying. Suddenly, it just pairs.

After that, it works just fine for about three days. Calls can be made and received, call logs can be viewed, call display works. Text messaging features does not work.

Then suddenly the phone simply disappears from the Nuvi. I have to spend another 20 minutes trying to pair over and over and over and over and over and over again ....

The only way I can get my cell phone paired is:

- Turn on always visible
- Tell Nuvi to search
- Tell Samsung to search
- After they see each other, select Nuvi on phone
- Enter password 1234 but don't press ok yet
- Choose cell phone on Nuvi
- 1/4 second after you tell Nuvi to pair to Samsung, press OK on Samsung
- Repeat this process for about 20 minutes until it works
- 3 days later, throw your Nuvi out the car window

I hate Garmin.

PS - I am using the 3.0 bluetooth update on the Nuvi. I heard that ealier bluetooth versions don't have the dropping the cell phone problem. If you don't have the 3.0 update yet, hold off on it. I called Garmin. They said they were aware of the problem but refused to help me revert back to the previous bluetooth version.

Did I mention that I hate Garmin?

Got Verizon? Too Bad!

I have a Samsun a950. It is capable, but Verizon cripples its phones so you have to pay for data transfers via its network. If your phone is a Verizon, you are out of luck.

You Sure?

Really ... this is bluetooth, not network data transfers ... are you sure? The Nuvi is nothing more than a headset, or a wireless earpiece. It is not using the web or any data transfer over the network at all. I am not saying you are wrong because I am not a Verizon customer, but I would call to confirm if this might be an issue for anybody.

BlueTooth Woes

Just wanted to mention that until I had Verizon do a firmware/software flash update on my LG 8700, I had just about no usable function on my Garmin 760. It now seems to be close to perfect using Bluetooth. We can only hope the same might be true for your Samsung unit. smile

Earpiece should work.

Oh. If the nüvi is simply acting like a wireless earpiece, then it should work. Verizon Bluetooth phones won't connect to anything but an earpiece. I've tried linking my Palm, but no dice.

Verizon and bluetooth connection

I have a Motorola phone with Verizon service and it connected to the Nuvi 660 on the first try. Been working great ever since

The same problem as previous review.

I try to pair my Samsung Trace with Nuvi 660. They both see each other but can't pair during enter the password. My bluetooth is version 0.0 and I don't know that this is a reason why I can't pair or not? Even though, I tried the same way as you recommend. Anyone know?

works with 550 too

Thanks for response - I will

Thanks for response - I will touch base with Verizon.

I tried several times and

I tried several times and for whatever reason the Phone Icon suddenly appeared -which I attributed to dumb-luck. Alas, it still do not work - the GPS nuvi 660 could not find the phone.

There are fixes online, trier beware

My phone and Palm see each other, but won't link.

There has been a class action lawsuit against Verizon because they cripple the data capability of their phones. Do a Google search for "verizon phone crippled" and you will find all kinds of links with info on the problem and hacks to "fix" your phone.

I followed the instructions

I followed the instructions on Garmin's site. On my first attempt the phone icon on the screen appeared but I was enable to make calls from the GPS - at that point in time I contacted Garmins's Help Desk who could not provide any more help. By the way, the phone icon did not re-appear when I turned the unit off and on again.

Gosh, I am impressed with the knowledge and tenacity in which you and others show in finding root cause and solutions. I may not be successul in quest, but I am sure am learning about GPS capabilities from this experience.

Thanks again.
