Does anyone know if a POI has been created for hotels that are pet friendly? My wife and I are getting ready to take a cross country trip with our dog and having a database of pet friendly hotels would be handy. I think this POI would have to be something of that's user-submitted since it would have different hotels and chains. Anybody else have any ideas?
That file is in the process of being created;)
I have 6 dogs, this might come in handy some day.....
I am in collabaration with the owner of www.petswelcome.com to write files for the locations in the U.S. He has over 15,000 locations on his web site but will probably be listing only about 8,000 initially. These will be the locations that have a stated pet policy. He wants to start with the high volume tourist states first. This complete file will not be ready until later this year. We will probably be starting with Florida. I will probably sort the files by state and will submit them as I finish each state, or states, depending on the number of locations in each state. I will also have icons for all the different chains in .bmp format.
You can visit the site but be aware that these hotels do change their policies and you should call first to check on any pet restrictions.
Thanks for the info... I will keep a eye on this topic for any changes...
That's a great site. Very helpful especially the weight limit info. It's now bookmarked on my computer and will be used frequently. I'm looking forward for your finished file.
Thanks for posting this site, I'm always looking for resources like these where I can travel with my dog.
Mio, who's trying to learn how to create a Dog-Friendly POI list for San Diego as her first attempt for POI files.
Have you any POI's for pet friendly hotels yet?
Yes - Follow this link.
More are being added as I get them completed.
Could you put this whole file into one bundle for download.
Download the individual files and put them into a single folder on your computer. If you use Extra POI Editor, you can open one and then merge open the others. When you save the EPE file, they will all be merged.
One of tbe advantages of doing individual states is if you don't need them all, why load them?
Just thought I'd ask as I know the process, but altering it to one file would eliminate multiple downloading/errors.
I created a combined file but the POI Factory server will only handle a file up to 4Mb. The file was almost 9Mb. I will be dividing it into 2 or 3 or more sections soon.
Very Useful site and information. Thank you.
Thanks a bunch and I'm glad your apart of the community. thanx.
Any chance of a list of motels that DO NOT allow pets? I'd patronize them in a heartbeat!
I assume you are using an Editor that has a maximum size allowed. I don't know why that would be... The other day I used GeePeeEx Editor to merge all the Pet Welcome POIs into a single combined file and it was about 7MB. It merged the files with no problem, and loading it into my GPS went fine.
Since you guys recently added the new state (Delaware) and made some corrections on a few others I thought I'd update my combined file. However, my Editor rejected the latest FL POI - saying there was a problem with the tag [/wpt] on line 8977 (I think it was). The line looked okay to me. Would you and RetiredTechnician take a look at the latest FL POI and see if your Editors see a problem with it?
We do not have a dog but I notice many Super 8 inns do allow them.
what will th efile extension be once it's available.
The files are available in gpx format. You can use poi loader to create a poi.gpi file to put on the nuvi. If you want them combined then download them all to a folder and use EPE to open the first one. Use merge open to merge all the rest. You can then save it as gpx file
Hi, when was the most recent update? 2010?
