New Nuvi User

Hi all, I'm a new Nuvi (370) user here. Been wanting one for quite a while, got it for Xmas, and went on a trip 3 days after I got mine. Talk about a learning curve! So far I've got the Fodor's and MP3s loaded along with a few pictures.

I've been browsing the topics here and thank you all for the good information. I've learned that I need to contact Garmin for my maps (no CD was included in the box) and not to bother getting that SaversGuide. I haven't yet searched on information on the live traffic updates but hope there's some information to be found. I got the GTM12 included in my package but haven't hooked it up yet.

So far all the talk of creating custom POIs is still Greek to me, but I hope by hanging around I can learn. I have my SD card purchased and am burning to put stuff on it!

Cheers, Mio (no, I didn't know there was a GPS unit called a Mio, but if it doesn't have European maps, I wouldn't have wanted it anyway)

Welcome New Nüvi User...

Hi Miosa,

Welcome to our family...

There's a wealth of information on this site. Either click on the "getting started" link at the top of the main page or type in a search term in the search field, on the top left side of the main page.

Happy learning...

Regards,

Getting around...

Thanks for the welcome! I've already started playing with the POI files, just looking at the format, so on. Yeah, I've never really been one to RTFM....

I did find that my POI loader reports an error on line 156 of the POI file "Dog Parks in AZ and CA". Where would I go to report something like this? I opened the file to that page to see if I can see what error it is, but I can't spot it (thought it was the symbol, but it ain't).

One thing I've found -- I hate that the POI loader overwrites the original files in there. I had read this at one point, but conveniently forgot it (and the computer on which I'd loaded the original file conveniently crashed. Le sigh.)

Mio, having fun with CSV

POI overwrite

Just change the file name after loading a file.

csv error

The longitude and latitude info for the csv file is wrong. Longitude is repeated on the latitude column. -122.45345,-122.45345, I would suggest to just delete that 1 entry, and report it to the poi creator.
