RedLgt/SpdCam which direction? Also creating a .spud file

Hi everyone,

This may be more directed toward miss poi but I thought I'd post it as a general topic.

I'm wondering if there is a way to point/locate the red light camera / speed camera directions in terms of 360 degrees and bi-directional or all directions etc? For instance if the speed camera is only on the main road of the intersection and not on smaller road of the intersection we could have it at say pointed 180 degrees and bi-directional meaning that its pointed 0 and 180 degrees but not 90 and 270 degrees. Or it could be pointed in all directions in which case I guess it wouldn't matter or it might only be located at 200 degrees and one-directional.

What I want to ask is if it makes sense? Is it doable or too much work?

My next question is on the Red Light Enforcement Cameras. Would it be OK if I used the csv files and created .spud files and shared it with users on this site? I have the ability via an excel script that someone else created to compile the data in the Red Light Enforcement Cameras on this site to create a .spud file which may be of use to people with Mio's and other people to simply download the copy.

Also, if so, would I only be able to share it with people on this site or other sites as well etc?

Thanks in advance.

The red light camera data

The red light camera data base is controlled by the owners of POI Factory, it is not something that can be turned into a spud file and distributed.

Without the financial support that the site receives from the Red light camera file, this site would not be on the internet anymore.

Please read our Terms of Service at the bottom of the screen and the FAQ area on the site.

Miss POI

Ah, I see. Well that takes

Ah, I see. Well that takes care of that. Although could you maybe pass on the request for adding the direction the camera(s) is/are pointed and whether one-directional, bi-directional etc?

I am not able to get that

I am not able to get that sort of information from the sources that I use. If you would like to let me know if a camera is in the West Bound, or East Bound, or North or South bound lanes then I can add that to the ones that you know about.

I use news reports and other government sources to find my information, they do not tell me which direction the cameras are facing.

Miss POI

How to create SPUD?

Anish,

Can you share the way to create the SPUD file?

Thanks.

More Info Please

I too would like such info on this. It would be nice since I drive alot and if I don't need to hear the alert everytime I drive on the freeway or thru an intersection specially if that camera poses no threat in the direction I am traveling. If this can be done I am able to make the changes on my end or can make changes to cvs files and help the poi factory out..........

"Speed" beeps

I updated the red light and speed Poi s the other day and today got a new "speed" indication when approaching a Santa Monica, CA intersection (which also has a school on the corner at Lincoln and Ocean Park.) I don't see anything there and this is new and probably is contained in the new Poi s. I didn't hear anything in the news about speed indicators in this town and wonder what my Garmin 205W is registering?
(I hope that this post is in the correct location of the discussions.)

Not in the redlight or speed file here.

I don't have anything in either file that would be alerting you at that location. Do you have a file with a number in the name?

Miss POI

speed indication

My 205W doesn't show "my poi s" the way the Garmin C330 that I bought today from a listing on craigslist does. The nearest "speed" listing in the 11/19 poi s is in Arizona, 339 miles or so away from Santa Monica. I don't know what came up on my screen yesterday but I'll check with my C330 tomorrow.

I read a post about numbers next to poi files which can cause alerts. I've noticed that the alert goes off near Starbucks and my Starbucks poi had a (2) next to it so I removed the (2) from starbucks and any other numbers from the rest of my poi s, including the redlight and speed cameras and reloaded my Garmin with the new ones. Hopefully the (12) or 11 next to the red light camera ones won't make any difference. I'll find out tomorrow if this is the problem.
