GPX - CSV

I use the StreetPilot c340. My love for GPSr has been extreme and as a result a good friend has purchased the 550. He would like to load some custom POIs I have done some that relate to family residences and business locations as well as some available on this site. All of my files are in CSV with 4 columns. My question is when I convert a GPX file the result is in four columns also. I have both the address and phone number in column 4 of the CSV file. Will his Bluetooth enable GPSr be able to dial the numbers or should I edit my CSV file to isolate the Phone # some how.I use Ma[Source and Easy GPS will these help? Going straight to Excel seems easier if you have the Coordinates.

Thanks

Bluetooth and the way it works

As far as I know, when you put the complete address with the phone # in Col D of your CSV file, it shows the complete address but doesn't allow you to dial the # even if it is there. On my 680, bluetooth took my phones contact list and downloaded it to my GPS. By hitting the phone icon, it will dial any of the numbers that were in my phone.

.

If you want the phone numbers to be dialable, the file needs to be a GPX and needs to be set up properly. If you you search for the term "dialable" here on the forum, you will find some information. I seem to recall someone saying that MapSource won't properly create the "dialable" property in the GPX.

GPX every time ;-)

You can't accurately represent the structure of a gpx file, using only 4 fields.

The field definitions for Garmin's csv files are

longitude,latitude,name,comment

For the C5xx/Nüvi/Zümo range, there are another 11 parameters that are not accessible via .csv input - you have to use a .gpx file.

Those 11 parameters are made up of 6 address fields, 4 phone number/contact fields and the Proximity Distance (for alerting POIs). (There are other fields as well, such as a 'Elevation' that are less useful)

Any telephone number placed in the

<gpxx:PhoneNumber Category="Phone">123-456-789</gpxx:PhoneNumber>

field will be dialable from a unit (such as the 550), with a bluetooth-connected phone.
