POI Icons on Nuvi 270 Not Showing on Map While Driving

Hello. I'm a newbie so I apologize for this post if the answer is obvious and I'm just not getting it. Then again, maybe the feature I'm looking for doesn't exist.

I got not one but two GPS units for Christmas. One is a Magellan Maestro 3100 and the other is the Garmin Nuvi 270. I really like both of them, but I like the Nuvi 270 better because of the European maps (I travel there a lot). However, there's one thing that is completely bugging me about the Nuvi 270 and that is that it doesn't display POI icons while I'm driving.

On my Maestro 3100, as I drive, I'll see icons pop up for everything from restaurants to gas stations to ATMs. On the Nuvi 270, I only see street names. I've zoomed way in, and I've zoomed way out and the icons never show up. The only time I see POI icons is on static maps of addresses I've mapped. Once I enter a route and start driving, the icons go away.

Is there any way to turn them on while driving? I found this feature on the Maestro really, really helpful, especially when I'm in an area I don't know well.

Any help (or confirmation that it doesn't work this way) will be appreciated.

Michael

.

You have to zoom in fairly close for them to show on the map screen.

I'm as zoomed in as I can be

I'm as zoomed in as I can be going down a busy street and no POI icons show. Again, I can see the icons as long as I'm not driving, but while the map is engaged and moving, the icons vanish. Perhaps I should take it to Garmin and have them check it out.

you have to turn your map

you have to turn your map detail up to most inorder to see them.

I've done that, too. Still

I've done that, too. Still no good. I had it out all day zoomed in as far as I could with "most" detail turned on.

Thanks for everybody's input. I think I might have a defective nuvi sad

I have that problem too

I have a Nuvi 200 and I don't see the POI icons while I'm driving.

Should they show on the screen while I'm driving around town?

thanks

POI's don't show in 3D view

I have a Nuvi 350 and POI's do not show when in 3D view unless they have a proximity alert set to them. Favorites show in 3D, but not POI's. POI's show in both North Up and Track Up modes. Your 200 may be the same way.

I have the nuvi 360 and all

I have the nuvi 360 and all of my custom poi's show up and all of the poi's that came with the unit show up in 2d and 3d. that is weird i would contact garmin about that.

Check if the safe mode

Check if the safe mode setting is enabled. I'm not sure what exactly it does but the manual describes it as a mode to limit distractions/functionality while driving. Perhaps it keep the POI icons from showing to avoid distractions. Try it out and let us know.

Thanks

POIs show in 2D mode and favorites show in 3D.

Same with the Nuvi 260.. except when the screen is tapped by a finger.. then the puny POIs show-up.. along with a small arrow that can be used to point at objects to display more info.

the safe mode

I know most model are different but on the c340 the safe mode if in the on position prevents you from changing any settings.

It is normal when they fade

It is normal when they fade away because as when you taking a turn, the icon does not always show. This happens to me also. If you are dricing straight to where the icon destination is, it will always show.

im pretty sure that on my

im pretty sure that on my 250w when asked about safe mode all it indicated was that I could not use the unit while driving, ie. for safe driving. So, I figured I had to set my destination before leaving if I wanted to use that setting. When I selected a custom poi, however, I did notice that the icons for most if not all of my poi's did show up. Using the gps for regualr use, and not for driving to a custom poi, the icons did not show up..

Try this ....

I have a Nuvi 660 and I had the same problem (icons not showing in navigation map), please see http://www.poi-factory.com/node/8357. To solve your problem, try using manual poi loader (not automatic). It should work this way, as it did work for me.

If not, try using .gpx poi file format and set proximities to your POIs. Remeber, to name the icons file name the same as the .gpx file name. Please, let us know which way will work for you, for the sake of knowledge.

Same problem Nuvi 275T

I used to use a Tom Tom. I am very happy with the Garmin and this site is awsome. With the Tom Tom as you drove along gas stations, restaurants, etc would show up on the screen if you selected them. My 275 only lets me route to a specific POI that I program. Otherwise while driving the landscape is barren. I have the display on "High" and have zoomed all the way in and out. It would be nice to know if an exit ahead had a gas station or restaurant at a glance, rather than having to go in and point to a POI in your area. I can live with it, but miss that feature of the Tom Tom.

I contacted Garmin Tech

I contacted Garmin Tech Support. This is an expected behavior on the Nuvi 275, so it may be the same for other models that experience this. Here is Garmin's reply.

Thank you for contacting Garmin International.

I'll be happy to help you with this.
Unfortunately, the unit won't display the poi's unless they are saved in your favorites.
I will pass the suggestion on to the proper department. I am sorry for any inconvenience.
