New member new Nuvi owner confused-computer defaults to excel regardless when downloading POI

Hi! I have a Nuvi 360. I downloaded the POI Loader software from Garmin, went to your website, joined, and attempted to download. I read your garmin poi loader instructions (very well written, thanks!!!!) but contrary to what the instructions say, whether i right or left click on the file, save target...save as...my computer automatically catalogs it as an excel file. Is that ok? will the nuvi recognize it? I thought it HAD to be in csv format?

So is excel file format (.xls file extention) and if not, what is another "work around" to get the file to save as csv. file.

Thanks in advance!!
Ken

.csv files appearing on PC with Excel Icon

If I understand correctly, the files you downloaded and unzipped are appearing on your PC with an excel icon. Most probably you have your PC set to open .csv files in excel and it will then show up with an Excel icon. This is not a problem as it would still be a .csv file and POI loader would be able to load it. You can check the file by right clicking and checking properties. If it ends in .csv it is okay.

Thanks, Joe. I finally got it to work late last night as I went ahead and downloaded to my documents, opened excel, opened the file, and then excel allowed me to "save as" a csv file. then I deleted the .xls file in my documents. Kind of a hassle, but hey, whatever works.

Thanks again for the help.
