fm transmitter

Just bought a new nuvi 660

Read in various forums that there seems to be an issue with underpowered fm transmission causing static when listening to the unit in your stereo system.

Since the nuvi 660 has an earphone jack - would it be possible to connect the gps unit directly to the stereo using an auxilary connection on the stereo itself.

something like this setup:

or this:

thanks

I dont see why it would be a problem just as long as the nuvi has the 1/8 inch audio output for it. you dont need to go through all of the trouble of buying all of that nonsence from amazon if your vehicle stereo has an aux input for it. just take an 1/8in balanced audio cable male to male and connect it up. but if your stereo doesnt have the aux input then i guess i wasn't any help for you.

thanks for the quick reply.

stereo does not have the aux input jack on it - but it does have the band/aux input button (I understand this button is for when a xm satellite or auxiliary cd changer is installed)

My understanding is that this band/aux input button would activate the aux input module that I described above when attached.

So, I think I got the truck part of the equation figured out - just not sure of the gps unit since it has a built in fm transmitter.

If I connect a cable from the earphone jack on the gps to the added aux input device on my stereo - will this overide the built in fm transmitter and pass the sound to the stereo?

Yes

But, since you have to set up the unit to use the FM output instead of speakers, it will not override the FM transmitter since it's not even turned on. Just make sure from whichever vendor you select that the interface you get has been confirmed to work with your vehicle. I used one of these in my former vehicle...worked great playing mp3s and getting navigation instructions.

fm output nuvi

I found an fm output setting on a hidden maintencance screen on the NUVI 660. I have boosted the output but have not tried it on my vehicle yet. had a little surgery so I have mor etme to play and less time to drive.

Use a stylus and press the time in the upper right hand corner for about 6-8 seconds. page through and you will find an fm output.

must turn off unit to return to gps.

but settings won't be saved

I know what screen and option you are talking about, but I do not believe the settings are saved when you turn off the GPS.

I think you are right
