Correction of Mapping Errors and Missing Streets

Is there any place to report mapping errors or missing street info? I recently purchased a Nuvi 660 and, out of all things to get wrong, the software places my house on the wrong block of my street. Don't get me wrong, I know how to get home without my GPS. Just thought it was ironic that the first set of directions I ran, it couldn't even get me home. Unfortunately, I tried to click on the search support link on Garmin's site, and the link is broken.

Also, is there a way to report new streets that have not made their way onto Garmin's mapping software yet. I live a few blocks away from a new development that has houses and a retail center. The streets haven't made their way onto the software, nor have the stores.

Complete the error form located at the Garmin web site.

You can also report them directly to Navteq who supplies the map data.

I also had the exact same problem when returning to my HOME, they have it on the other side of the street. This was due, in my case , to a switching of odd number houses from the right side of the street to the left side of the same street after the street came around a bend.

I have a third site that you can report errors to. I would imagine that it will take at least a year before the changes show up, if at all.

The additional site is: mapfeedback.teleatlas.com//index.htm

Good luck,

Thanks! Exactly what I was

Thanks! Exactly what I was looking for.

Be aware that TeleAtlas does not currently provide map data to Garmin.

Same here

My Daughter-in-laws' house is shown 2 miles east from where it actually is on my SPc530. I had to get my eTrex out so I could look up the coordinates and correct the error.

Remember also that you can press on the arrow when your at the "correct" location and save it to your favorites. Easy and simple. smile

Yes.

That's how I got the coords. into the eTrex. Stored them while in the driveway. I used the address lookup in the c530 and it came out 2 miles off. Used PoiEdit to fix it. There are a few more that I need to edit. Address lookup doesn't seem to be very accurate.
Not very cool if it gets addys wrong all the time. Maybe MS 2008 will help the problem when I get that installed.

Manually saving the location

I tried that on mine. Did not work for me. I live at the end of a cul de sac and when I tried to manually save the coordinates as my address, the next time I tried to "Go Home", my nuvi 660 was taking me on a route that was obviously wrong. By setting my address manually, it made the 660 think my house was about an 1/8 of a mile east from where I actually live, and presumably thought I lived on another street. Even after recalculating the route between half a dozen and a dozen times, it still couldn't get me home. I was waiting to hear the 660 start yelling "I SAID MAKE A U-TURN, STUPID!"

Manually saving the location

If it's like my nuvi 260, you just delete your current favorite called "home".

Then do like walleye1 says, saving it as "home"

If you leave and tell it to go home and it misses your home, your unit is defective. (assuming you had green bars the whole time)

Map Problems

When I was traveling I was on a relatively newly built road, (less than three years) the map was in the GPS, but the location marker had me to the west of the road as I traveled in this one section of the road.
I have "stay on road" turned off in my setup, but I wasn't even close to the road at this point. When I uploaded the track log to GoogleMaps it show the track log a s traveling on the road.
I didn't know if it was a mistake with the GPS, the map or the accuracy was poor.

Thanks for the LInk

Thanks for the link. I found a city name in Texas that was misspelled (Hebbronville instead of the correct spelling : Hebronville). I sent the correction to the link you provided

Hope it gets corrected in some future map update

Naveteq's prompt automated reply:

If you can, send them the correct address information. They don't ask for coordinates, the street address is fine.

Good information

Thanks for the links. I've submitted missing POI errors to both Garmin and NAVTEQ for a library a few miles away that opened 4 years ago. I can understand an omission within a year or two, but 4 years seems a little too long to me. I purchased my Nuvi 760 about a month ago and have the 2009 maps installed, so they are the latest available.

.

It can take anywhere from 3 - 5 years for roads to get updated and even longer for POIs to be updated.
