Transferring Routes from Mapsource to Nuvi 760

Has anyone done this? I've created routes with newly acquired Mapsource v 6.13.6 and named the route and tried to transfer the route to my Nuvi 760. The status window said the tansfer was successful but when looking on the Nuvi I do not see the route created via MapSource. I only see routes I created on the Nuvi.

I did choose "Send to Device" and made sure Routes was selected.

It works

Look at page 28 of the users guide for the Nuvi and you'll find out why you don't immediately see the route. You have to go to "My Data", and import the route from a file. It is on the Nuvi - you just have to import it. If you don't have the expanded users guide, go to Garmin.com, bring up any 7XX series device, look at the menu on the right hand side of the screen, and select manuals.

Cheers......... Joel

That did the trick

Thank you for the fast response Joel. That is the step I was missing. I like your Username, it is ironic since I am mapping a route to a local paintball park in SoCal.

That is odd!

You are quite welcome for the tip. I fully digested the users manual before my 750 even arrived. It is a GREAT device! I've bought a Honda with an on-board navigation system, and had tried to sell the Nuvi. Haven't had much luck, so I guess I'll just keep it (I do love it!). The on-board system has Navteq maps, so it's not too bad.

I do all the finances for my son's paintball business here in Middle Georgia. We have a hyperball field, 2 speedball fields, and a 17 acre woodsball field with loads of stuff (like an airplane - boats, and several buildings) on the woods field. Majority of players want the woods course, so we set up scenarios for them. When they get "shot out", we put them in the "hospital" for 5 minutes - then rotate them back in. Folks have a lot of fun in the woods! The picture I use is of my grandaughter, who had been out stomping on paintballs. Hard to see it, but her face is covered with red paint. grin

Cheers for now, and Merry Christmas!

Having much trouble with route transfer

Folks, I'm having a terrible time over the past couple of days trying to use the SEND TO DEVICE feature found in Mapsource. It either won't send anything when I attempt to transfer the couple of maps I need for my pending trip, or it will add one new route to the "import" list while deleting another. It's crazy. I even went so far as to do a hard reset this afternoon and it took me three attempts to restore my Favorites backup, again using Mapsource and SEND TO DEVICE.

Any tips? Thanks.

.

Sorry to hear you are having troubles.

First, you don't want to send maps from MapSource to your nuvi.

Second, if you are trying to send multiple routes without disconnecting the nuvi from the computer, you need to have ALL of the routes in the same MapSource file. You can open multiple instances of MapSource at the same time and then just copy and paste the routes from one instance of the program to another.

Routes

Yes, I meant to say routes, not maps. The strange thing is, I've done this before without any issues whatsoever.

I've also tried sending just a single route at a time, disconnecnt, re-boot, etc. with no luck.

I don't think I've tried the method you suggest with having multiple instances of the program at the same time.

Thanks.

OK,

the copy/paste routine into a single file worked...I'm not sure the "logic" behind that. I don't understand why I can't send the 4 routes individually as I had done before.

I really like this ability to create highly customized routes on the PC and forward them to the Nuvi. My confidence is fairly high working with it...I can't figure out if I'm missing some fundamental step in the transferring process. I know I've had something like 8 or 9 separate routes sitting in the "ready to import" screen. I don't understand why it's working different today.
