Problem Acquiring Satellite

Yesterday my Garmin 680 was working fine. I set my location, it took me there. I turned it off, got out of the car and transacted my business. When I got back in the care and turned on the GPS it displaced a map of my current location and kept displaying acquiring satellite. As I drove, it kept displaying the original location and continued to show acquiring satellite. Next it displayed "Problem Tracking Satellite. The signal strenth bars indicated no signal. I tried resting the unit but it never helped. Even after I was miles away it continued to display the original map and never acquired a satellite signal. Can anyone help?

Thanks in advance.

My advice -- to whom it happens -- call Garmin customer services as soon as you can.

Haven't seen a serious problem

As others have noted, several factors affect acquiring satellites. These are what I have noticed 1) time since last acquired 2) distance moved from the last known position 3) antenna orientation, 4) obstructions (buildings).

I cannot acquire satellites if I'm indoors and not near a window. Takes longer to acquire if my unit is standing on end with the antenna pointed straight up. Acquiring after the unit has been off for a short while takes less than 30 seconds. In those cases where the takes too long, I have considered purchasing an antenna, but so far doesn't seem to be necessary.

Lost signal on GPS

I have a Garmin Nuvu 360 and had a lot of problems with lost signal, well I read some reviews and many people said the problem is the Antenna. Well Itried all the normal things to fix problem and no luck. I finally bought a $9.95 antenna from Amazon and the unit works just fine. Also when the GPS could not get va signal it had me locked in a location Kansas, so that cleared up. I hope this helps some people with the same problem cause ti can drive you nut,s, Don C
