Lake Superior Circle Tour

I am planning a motorcycle ride this summer of the Lake Superior Circle Tour. Does anyone know of a Garmin GPS route that is available ??

Don't know of a pre-made but you can create your own using>>>

Mapsource and Google Maps...the difficulty with Garmin is forcing your route as opposed to living with their route. Typically, I decide where I want to go, go my own way and use the GPS to just get back on track after wandering...you never get really lost and youy don't have to deal with the frustration of creating your ownb route and then having Garmin, basically, tell you no thanks smile

if you have a bunch of places you want to see, you can enter them as favorites and navigate to them with the GPSr...JM2C

Not sure about a Garmin POI, but there are books on the subject to maximize a great tour:

Lake Superior Circle Tour

Thanks for your info...
I have rode the bike in 49 states, some of the states several times, got the GPS about two years ago....I normally do just as you suggested, however, thought there might be a GPS route with somne of the must see points of interest. I ordered the book, Travel Guide, from Lake Superior website, there are so many points of interest, just trying to narrow them down....
Thanks again....

Having driven the north of

Having driven the north of Superior route this summer, coming home from Winnipeg, make sure your camera has a big card in it (if its digital) and a laptop or netbook to dl the pictures onto. There are quite a few stretches were this isn't any cellphone reception. If you have plenty of time take it, we had to get home so we didn't stop a lot. If you like coffee, get the Tim Hortons (Timmies) file or if you like another type of beverage the American Legion and Royal Canadian Legion files, you might also get some good info from the people there. If your camping out Im sure the campground files will come in handy. O yes watch out for wildlife some of them (deer) like to play chicken.

Have you checked madmaps?

Wisconsin and Michigan maps may get you alot of good ideas. It is $13 though, if that is an issue.

Lake Superior Circle Tour

Thanks everybody for all the great info......now the planning begins.....I like to just have a general route plan, then just play it by ear as I go....no time constraints....just ride and enjoy !!!!!!!

To TMK - I found a GPS for the Circle Tour

I also ride a Harley and am a HOG Life Member...I was browsing the HOG members only website - Trip Planner - Roads posted by members - there is a GPS route for the circle tour posted by "Bob" from Michigan. I reviewed the route, made a couple minor changes....he has done a great job... you might check out this site.....

Delta Diner Stop on Circle Tour

I have not made the full circle tour, but June 2010 a friend and I rode our motorcycles from Sault Ste.Marie to Minneapolis along the southern shore of Lake Superior. The Delta Diner in Delta, WI is a must stop for breakfast or lunch (closes daily after lunch). It's only a few miles south of route 2 across WI which is probably the route you will take. www.deltadiner.com

Another must stop place is in MI, Mackinac Island. Make a day stop.

Delta Diner

Thanks for the info... I will add the Delta Diner to my "must see" stops....
I have been to Mackinac Island with my wife and spent a full day....great place.....

Lake Superior Circle Tour

From Duluth north through Thunder Bay and the north shore to Sault Ste. Marie you have no choice of roads, just when to stop and see the sights or ride towards the lake. Living in Thunder Bay, the south shore is much more interesting. I would recommend venturing up the Keweenaw Penisula through Houghton and Hancock and if the weather is clear, all the way to Copper Harbour. Father east at Ashland head north through Bayfield and continue on state highway 13 back toward Duluth. Bayfield, Houghton, Duluth and Thunder Bay are strong sailing communities, another reason I like visiting these towns. Have a great trip. grin grin

The MTF is doing that ride and you can find Mapsource files here:

There's another motorcycle group that does that ride and perhaps some helpful info can be found here:

There's a bunch to see and I guess a lot depends on how much time you have for your trip around the lake. My last trip around Lake Superior on a motorcycle was in 2009. While that trip took only one day, I did enjoy the scenery on the north shore.

Wolf's Head Rally - Tour

Tour for this year was just cancelled - not enough participants (economy & gas prices).

Dang!

I'm sorry to hear that.

I guess it's just a sign of the times....
