Magellan 3225 Owner

I spent hours with this thing. I got the Red Light file which is a .csv. I converted to a .mgln file.

The GPS sees it, when I try to load it it says "ERROR OPENING FILE"

I read here about Magellan's being picky about names and being unique....

So I deleted every name except the first line to see if this would work since it's unique name (ONLY NAME!) It still says the same.

I tried using an SD card...No luck...

I know other people have loaded this...I know I'm doing something wrong. Please help...

Red Light POIs

I had the same problem initially with the test "Speed Trap" POI I downloaded from this site, and never could make it work, but gave up because it didn't have any locations where I currently planned to travel. However the current Red Light file posted December 12, I just updated to make sure it would work and it did work fine.
What I did was download the .csv file and opened it with Excel. Since it is a pretty large file and still covers a lot of area I don't travel, I did a data "Sort" first by column D and then by Column C. Then I did a replace on Column C, replacing "Red Light Camera" with "RLC". (I'm" not sure that is any benefit, other than eliminating some text and hence reducing file size. I resaved the file as a .csv file, without deleting anything, but may at this point delete whole sections of the table to narrow it to areas I would normally travel. Again the advantage would be to reduce file size and amount of info memory would have to deal with.
I then opened the file with the Magellan POI Editor, defined the headings for each column and changed the default category to "Red Light Cameras" and changed the Icon and saved the file to my "Magellan Ready POIs" folder.
I plugged in my 2500T to the USB cable, turned it on and set the GPS side of the screen from Internal Memory to SD Card.
Next I deleted the old Red Light Camera files from both the SD Card on the right side of the screen and my "Magellan Ready" folder on the left.
Then I highlighted the new "Red Light Cameras" file on the left, pushed the transfer button and within seconds, the file completed the transfer to the GPS.
Upon unplugging the GPS from the USB cable, it started up normally, and I loaded it as an enhanced POI and it seems to be functioning fine.
This may be rather long-winded and you may be trying the same exact process, but I would suggest deleting the current file from your computer, turning off your virus checker and firewall and downloading the file again, convert it to a mgln file with your POI editor and try a reinstall. Don't forget to turn your firewall and virus checker on when you are finished.
Let us know what happens.
Luck!!

Thanks....

I have a feeling it's my GPS that is having a problem...

I tried to MANUALLY create a POI using a coordinates from the RED LIGHT file using Magellans Editor. It still gives me that ERROR opening file" even if I make my own....

I'll try your way... Thank you.

Finally got it working!

After loading everything, I decided to press that little reset button and it worked. Thanks for all your help....

USB Cable to do this?

Can you add POIs by downloading through a USB cable to the actual unit or do you need one of those cards? This is my first unit and I don't know what the card is for, nor do I have one at this time.

Thanks!
Fran

USB Cable

Well, if you have the 3225, you have enough room without a card. I wanted a card just to add more poi, but you don't need one.

Have no idea how to add POIs

If I wanted to add POIs to my 3225, how would I do it? I have no idea how to use this site at all sad

Thanks for the help!

Fran

Miss POI

Check the position of Lat. amd Long.

Gnrmin places Longitude first and latitude second. Don't know if that is corrected in the Magellan. Csv files can be viewed and manipulated i Excel.

RM800 and RM860T Sequence not important

I can't speak for the other models but both the RM800 and RM860T use the Magellan tools and the order is not important. You select the fields with a drop down box above the actual field.

Adding POI's to 3225

How I added to my 3225

1. Download the POI file or .csv files you want.
2. Use the Magellan software tool and load the .csv file. This will convert it to a .mgln file. (Make sure the long. lat. are correct)
3. Make sure when you edit the file, you have metric system. Feet vs. Meters (This is why I believe I couldn't load mine. I had mines set to meters)

3225 directory for POIs

If you load enhanced POI files into a Magellan Maestro 3225, make sure you save them in [GPS DRIVE:]/USR/CPOI. They must be there for the system to recognize them. This was not in the Magellan docs. I found out through trial and error.
