Rest Areas - POI (LG LN740 GPS)

I currently own an LG LN740.

I downloaded the above mentioned file and a get an error message that states that the POI is not available on the map of my GPS.

Do the POI's only come up once I enter the US as I live in Canada?

Thanks for the help.

Steve

Where to> Address> select the city where the rest area is, and then see the map. Atleast you can see if it will show up on the map when you drive in.

If you downloaded The RestAreasCombined

If you downloaded The RestAreasCombined POI file
and you go to "Where to">Favorites>Custom POIs (or Extras)>Rest AreasCombined the screen should show the 50 closest "entrances" to Rest Areas, Turnouts, Welcome Centers or Service Plazas!

Still does not work, for starters, when I open up the file under favorites (where it was saved), it only shows the co-ordinates without names or locations.

When I click on a co-ordinate to see if it will show me where on the map that location is, the error message reads: "The selected destination is not on this map. Please select a different map".

Any ideas??

.

Are you sure that that unit is compatible with these types of files?

Edited to add:
If you look at page 69 of the user manual, it looks like you need to change the order of the columns for the POI files to work with this unit.

For Garmin units, the POI files are structured as follows:

longitudue1,latitude1,name1,comment1
etc

For the LG, it looks for the data in a different order, which might explain the "not on this map" error.

Try reordering the columns and see if it works.

name1,comment1,longitude1,latitude1

You may need to add additional columns/commas to account for the other fields that the unit is looking for.

The format you specified did

The format you specified did the trick...

Thank you MM for the tip!!!!! smile

Custom POI on an LG LN 730

I read the comment on the 740.

I have a new LN 730 - it has no 'load poi' software yet? But you seem to have found a way to put POI CSV onto LG and make them visible?

How do I do this or where.

I have been using the Active Sync to look at files and location of data on the LG. I could push the CSV on the system but it doesn't look like it knows what CSV are.

So could you tell me how or where you loaded the files - I assume (possibly wrongly) that the base interfaces are the same on 730 and the 740?

Good question, the CSV file for the LG unit is as follows:
name1,comment1,longitude1,latitude1

FYI, Garmin units are structured as follows:
longitudue1,latitude1,name1,comment1

I use the 'LGE PC Portal' to import the POI files.

Within the main screen, goto 'Import Favorites'.

Select the file in CSV format, click on 'import' and your done. I do not believe there are any major differences between 730 and 740.

If you run into any problems let me know.

Custom POI on an LG LN 730

Yep - there it was like you said. I've been looking at this for hours and just couldn't see it.

Works like a charm (followed the format change you provide no problems).

Now all I have to do is wait for the map updates.

What I still don't have answer for is can I get the 7 M POI from the 740 on my 730. If I put a 1 GB card in or remove some of the maps I don't need and free up the space.

Anyone have thoughts on how this could be done?

LG POI format

One final note on CSV format.

the format you note works but I have found that the MIO MAP format is the same as the LG foramts.

could be they both use Windows CE as the base OS?

So if you user PoiEdit or see POI in MIO Map format you won't need to edit the file (as you do when you pick Garmin format)

LG POI format.

That is correct. I've tried both on my unit and it works perfectly fine.

POI DB

ryaxin - you have the LN740 with the 7 mil POI.

I wanted to try loading the 7 mill on my 730 by moving maps off the device to a SD.

do you know how big the POI files are on the 740?

I'll look into it and let

I'll look into it and let you know...

I know the LN740 has 2GB of HD space. If I can recall, there should be a way I could send you the POI's if I can access them and copy and put them in a zip file. I could then use sendspace.com to send you the file.

POI on LG

Thanks...

The files are accessible vai the MS Active Sync/Explor I think.

I think they put the POI under each map e.g.

\ResidentFlash\LGE\LGENavi\Canada has a file called
"WCE_A.POI"

My file is 2.77MB for the Canada map I have.

So I think its the POI files for each map that makes up the space?

What do you see for the Canada POI then?

Active Sync should work.

Active Sync should work. I'll look at it tonight and I'll keep you posted.

POI from 740 on a 730

Ryaxin - this may be simplier then I think. Looking on the CD provided with the device (mine is labeled for LN 730) it shows maps file in 'zip format' on the CD

For Canada the the zip is 56.1 MB.

I think I just need the CD or ZIP of each map with the updated POI. This would let me update the 730 to the higher POI but I would have to manage the maps onto a SD card since I have only 1 GB internal.

If I could get a zip and confirm this that would be great.

POI file alone

I believe that by installing the POI file alone should do the trick. The maps are the same for the 730 and 740.

I have not been able to locate the CD's as of yet. If and when I do, I'll zip Canada and the USA and I'll fire it off to you.

I have attached the POI file for Canada. The file is 7.26MB. ( WCE_A.POI )

I would ask as a precaution to make a backup but if you have the CD's for the 730 then your fine. To avoid compression, I have not zipped the POI file, instead I used sendspace to send you the file.

POI Files

Yes it worked just fine - replaced the WCE_A.POI file only.

I now have a whole new set of location and categories under my canadain locaitons.

We are planning a trip down to FL in 2008 so getting the balance of POI or the 740 CD would be great use in the travels.

Thanks for the help and file(s).

Excellent, I try to get them

Excellent, I try to get them to you as quickly as I can.

Glad I could help!

ryaxin - 740 POI files

Did you ever get a chance to find your 740 CD with the POI.

Thanks.

I have not found it. I

I have not found it. I searched extensively some time ago and have no clue where they are. They will eventually show up. (Most likely when I'm not looking for them)

I still have access to the units files but I'm a little on the edge accessing them without the CD's.

LGE Pc portal

I also own LG LN740. After importing the red light .csv files into LG Ln740 how do I put into POI so it shows on the map or alerts me to a red light camera. I did get it into MY FAVORITES, but I think it needs to be in POI to work correctly?
