after a fling w/ navigon and magellan, i come back to garmin

I previously had nuvi 350. Then gave it to parents. Bought navigon 2100T. the traffic feature was nice and all, but i didn't find it useful. Ended up buying myself another nuvi 350. It's nice a compact unlike the 650. I don't look at screen enough to appreciate large size. The tts and routing features on nuvi are way better.

Great to know, was thinking

Great to know, was thinking about getting a navigon. Guess I won't.

My thoughts - women went shopping (nothing personal) on black Friday and the TomTom always has been the most heavily advertised GPS on the television.

I saw a Garmin commercial on Discovery watching Dirty Jobs.

Garmin

If Garmin advertised during Desperate Housewives, they would dominate the market! Or so I have heard.......

Curious

webazoid, what was it about the Navigon 2100T that you didn't like? I was considering trying the 2100T because of the lifetime traffic but ultimately went with the Nuvi 660.

that's a good one!

I came VERY close to buying

I came VERY close to buying a Navigon but I contacted their tech support and found out you can't add custom poi's UNLESS you pay about $50.00 for 3rd party software! After learning this I decided to buy my 2nd Garmin (C580) and I am happy with this unit.. It's hard to place a number on great tech support/customer service but it is so important! On another note my brother just bought a C330 on black friday and after several phone calls Garmin agreed to send him the update DVD for 2008 NT now he too is a Garmin fan..

traffic isn't that useful.

traffic isn't that useful. like today i was driving and it was raining so all the local freeways were jamed...there was probably 4-5 different variations i could have used in terms of roads. it popped up like 10 times telling me to avoid what route and stuff. i set it to automatic and it seemed to go w/ the suggested route anyways.

in needs work on local road selection...it chooses routes that are roundabout...lots of turn.

navigon 2100T

I have had a Garmin gave it to my wife (keeping it in the family), Bought the Navigon on black friday for 99 bucks with lifetime traffic. The money I saved I bought POI-Warner third party software and guess what, it puts the garmin to shame, I'm here aren't getting files. And the Navigon routes me around traffic jams to boot for no extra charge. Sorry Garmin lovers, I am a owner also, so not just a slammer.

For those that don't know Navigon here's a link:

I like the last sentence in that news blurb... "This is just a bit of proof that low prices, not features, are grabbing the attention of most GPS consumers."

Sort of matches my feelings from the research I did before I "told" my wife which one she was getting me for Christmas (Nüvi 260 is what I decided on). Service and past rep is what sold me. As a new GPS user, I don't need technical problems with no support system.

How much is the POI-Warner software and how do you get the software on the 2100t? Does the POI-Warner software replace the Navigon 2100T's built-in software and interface? If I remember correctly, a common complaint in reviews is that the 2100t's interface is difficult to navigate (no pun intended) and has very tiny keys.

after a long research and

after a long research and looked into various review, i decided to get the nuvi750, my first GPS. it is working great. i dont want to say that Garmin is the best, but it is little bit reliable, thats what my research result.
