Garmin C 330 & Custom Poi's

This Is what Garmin Replyed;

Thank you for contacting Garmin International, 1. Yes, your c330 will be
able to properly read any custom POI files from an SD card loaded into
the unit.

2. With all of the information added in the latest update, the unit does
not have enough memory to hold both the US and Canada, this is why it
has you choose between one and the other when you were loading the 2008
version.

3. If you can send me a copy of your proof of purchase showing your
purchase date and company purchased from either through fax or email, I
would be glad to see if you are eligible for a free update, if you are I
can credit you back the order you created.

4. Your unit can use up to a 2gb SD card at this time.

Well

You're gonna have to try it and let us all know how it works for ya, since that's contrary to what we know.

C340

I wonder if the C340 can read POI's from a SD card. I for a fact know the C330 could not read POI's from a card unless with the update the programming was changed.

sd card reading poi's

I would not think there was that much difference between the c330 and c340 but below is the info from garmin on Poi's from sd card.I used the poi loader and used a card reader to download poi's to it and checked to make sure they were on the card.I then put the card in the gps c340 and it would not display them.I went through every setting on the unit and found no way to get them to come up on the screen. So I must agree with the Garmin support answer below.

Thank you for contacting Garmin International, the c340 unit will not
read custom poi's from a data card. The unit has 2mb of supplemental
storage for custom poi's. The unit will not accept custom vehicle icons
due to it not being a mass storage unit

There has been plenty of conversation on this over the past year. The answer is always the same...

...Even though these models have a SD card slot, they cannot read custom POI data from a SD card.

sd card reading poi's ETC

I contacted Garmin about a possible update to allow the SD card to do more then just read maps.Below is the answer I got back so there may be hope.

Thank you for contacting Garmin International,

I would be happy to assist you with this. I would be happy to forward
this suggestion to our software engineers. Currently, the primary use of
the SD slot is for mapping and to provide future expansion since the
mapping does get larger every year as more details as put into the unit.
Please let me know if there is anything else I may assist you with.
