AAA Tour Book Update for Magellan 4040

I just received an e-mail from the south east regional office of AAA. They are sending me an update of their Tour Book section on the Magellan 4040. They state they will have loading instructions for me to follow. It has only been two months since I first contacted them so they have really moved out on my request from no plans for an update to this. Will see what happens and I will make it available (if it works) to anyone interested.

Page 1>>

That's very interesting

I also have a Maestro 4040. What prompted you to ask AAA about an update?

AAA update

What prompted me was that I noticed that many of the restaurants in my area were either not listed or no longer existed. When I spoke to Magellan support about updates in general, they told me that they would not be the ones updating AAA, only their maps, and that I should contact AAA for new information about their updates. So, I contacted the Southeast Regional group and started the inquiry. They had no information about updates but since the regional group of AAA sold the 4040 at one time, they were aware of the AAA national input into the product. So that office promised me they would check with corp. and give me an answer. Like I said in my first post, it remains to be seen what they are sending and how extensive it is. I think the data now in the 4040 is about two years old.

AAA POIs

I was wondering about upkeep of the AAA information after I got my 4040.

I searched the AAA web site and didn't find anything about it, acquiring it, or updating it. Think I will shoot a note out to them as well.

It would be something worth updating and worth buying or getting membership for.

AAA Tour Book Update

I would be interested in getting the AAA update for my 4040. If this works for you please let me know or all of us know how to get it and do the update. thanks very much

Calling AAA

I think each of us will just have to e-mail them and ask and hope it generates interest on their part.

AAA

I will get the information to all as soon as the download arrives and I have loaded it and make sure it doesn't mess up our units. I would wait on an e-mail campaign just yet, maybe you will get it faster this way. Besides, this is being prompted by the Southeastern AAA group. I know there are other regions of AAA and all may not be on board yet. So let's see what happens.

Any further update on this?

Sorry, nothing yet. They said about three weeks when I last talked to them. I think it has been about two so hopefully soon.

Those of you that have responded on this AAA issue, I will let you all know ASAP> Feel free to e-mail me if you would like to discuss the 4040.

AAA tourbook

I just returned my Magellan 4040 and bought the 4250 hoping the AAA files would be updated. I kept a copy of the maps from the 4040 to compare to the 4250 maps. The modifed dates of the files on the 4040 were mostly 6/16/2005 and the files on the 4250 were mostly 8/16/2007 or 8/27/2007 but the size of the AAA_TB_POI file was exactly the same on both units so I ran a comparison program on the two files and they turned out to be identical. Looks like they didn't change the AAA tourbook just the date. I called my local AAA and they said the files on the 4250 should be the latest files and there are no updates yet. They said they would check into it and call me back. One restaurant in my area that is listed on the 4250 tourbook has been closed since Feb 2006.

AAA Update

Thanks KA1167 for the location of the update. I got all of this started about telling everyone that there would be an update. I was promised by AAA I would get an early heads up by getting a file sent to me so that I could pass it along. I have been trying to contact them since my post at least three times but no response. So I hope this is the update they were promising. Sorry everyone that I didn't get the information and get it back to you but thanks to KA1167, we may have it.

AAA Questions Answered

The update listed in KA1167 post is the update we have been waiting on! I e-mailed a Mr. Jeromy Dodd, who is listed on their web site and asked him three questions. (1) How are POI's chosen to be listed in the AAA Tour Book? (2) Explained while on a trip, one has to cancel their route in order to display the Tour Book in Magellan. Can you push Magellan to change that problem. (3) Where in Magellan menu can you find the AAA update listed? His response:

Firstly, the hotels, restaurants, and other points of interest in AAA's data are there in most cases because they requested to be evaluated by AAA's inspectors and were approved to be listed with AAA. There are many properties in North America that we feel are not up to AAA standards and are therefore not listed with the rest of our points of interest. Similarly, properties are opening up all the time and it often takes a bit of time before inspectors can evaluate them.
Secondly, your concerns about navigating between AAA data and the rest of the data in the Magellan unit are not unique and we are trying to work with Magellan to integrate as much of our data as possible into the overall presentation, rather than having it somewhat "isolated" as it is now. Unfortunately there is no time table for that to actually happen. I will forward your comments to the people we work with at Magellan as further input.
Finally, the AAA database version can be found if you scroll in the main menu to "User Options" and then scroll down to "Map Information" (of all
places!). The last line will read "AAA Data Version" and, if you've already loaded the latest update from the AAA.com/gps web page, should
have a value of 4.1.0.2. Also, we're adding text to that web page that will indicate the date of the current update file, so people can avoid having to dig for the data version information.
Hopefully I've answered your concerns, but if I can be of any further assistance please feel free to contact me. Thank you again for your feedback.

Can not find update

I can not find the update on aaa.com/gps. Am I missing something? Can someone send me the update?

No, I don't think so.....at least not HERE....copywrited material and all that.

I suggest you call your LOCAL AAA organization and get them on the ball. You would be doing a lot of other folks in your area a favor.

AAA upgrade

Hi, just found this forum while searching for an AAA upgrade to my brand new 3140. Great info here and I will be perusing all the Magellan topics soon.
I appreciate the info given above regarding the new update and will be downloading once I get my new gps fully charged. The reason I have registered was so I could possibly help swtrader as I had a similar problem.

Being from BC Canada when I encountered the request for my zip code I entered the one and only USA zip code I know --- 90210--- It gave me the same results swtrader is getting...no joy. And everytime I went to aaa.com/gps I got the California page. I then found my AAA cookie and deleted it and then entered my proper Canadian postal code in the required zip code box. VOILA...success. I am wondering if AAA recognizes my postal code from my registration process earlier? Have you registered at Magellan and at AAA yet swtrader? If not I would suggest you try deleting your AAA cookie beforehand.

Regards

Ian

PS: There is also a note in the download area that "Data may not be available in all areas" Good Luck!

AAA tourbook info update for California

Hi Guys,

thanks for the comments! I had the same issue - and the Northern California page is only interested in sales... I analyzed the links on the New York page and started playing around until I got to the following:
http://ww2.aaa.com/scripts/WebObjects.dll/AAAOnline.woa/515?...
This link uses the central AAA server to retrieve the data but allows you to login using your Northern California / Utah / Nevada account.
Use Club=4 for Southern California... others should work too - just play around unil you find your club number.

Has anyone else gotten the latest POI

I am from Ohio and have been tryig to work with AAA on getting the updates. They see them and know they exist but they have gone dark. Are there any other places to the AAA updates? This is one of the main reasons why I bought the Maestro.

Any help you can give will be appriciated!

Thanks

OK, I give up. What exactly does that mean?
Who "sees" them?
And what is "gone dark"?

It is a AAA product. Somebody in their company knows what is going on; it's a matter of getting to the right person.

Updated info

Sorry I was vague in my last post. AAA is the people I was talking to in the ohio region and they have not gotten back to me. If someone knows who at AAA I should talk to please forward that info to me. I have to admit that AAA is so segmented they really don't know anything about each other.

Thanks for the help!

AAA Possible Help

Tschraer, you might try calling a Jeremy Dodd at 404-444-8235 who is a national person with AAA. He answered back an e-mail of mine which I posted earlier his response. If he can't help you he may direct you to someone who can. Hope this helps.

AAA download

I just downloaded the new file

Has anyone tried it?

Yes but didn't let it complete.
It is almost 25 MB smaller than the last update AND when you run it, it says it will update to 4.1.0.2....which is the LAST update version.

I sent an email to AAA.

AAA tourbook update would not install for me either

I downloaded v5.0 from AAA, started the software and connected my Maestro 3140 but the update would NOT install! It said it couldn't find my Maestro. Hmmmm.... I updated the Magellan firmware to 2.16 without incident a month or so ago so I don't know what's up with the AAA file. I sent an email to the AAA contact person (Jeremy) and I'll let you know what he says.

I can't be a member

I'm from Canada, where this model is sold just as it is in the states.

Any hope for us north of the border? The CAA is a bit more cohesive (it seems) but I wouldn't expect the AAA resources to be available through them.

Any suggestions/hints would be appreciated! grin

For anyone who is

For anyone who is interested, version 6.0.0 is available.

Are they really affiliated with AAA or just have a similar name ??

Some of the regional AAA organizations in the US have been slow to get with the program. You have to go through your regional organization so they can verify your membership number.

Just downloaded the new update. Thanks

The AAA update

The Magellan AAA tourbook database is seemingly the same database they posted in April 2008,

Magellan_Maestro_Series_AAA_6.0.0_Rel3.exe

No updates yet. I would have thought that data would need to be updated a couple times a year.

Hopefully they will upload an update in April 09.

Tourbook Update

Version 7 dated Dec 08 is available- (login required, 55 MB download, ver 7.0 issued Dec. 2008).

Quarterly updates

So now AAA is listing on their web site they will update the information quarterly. We shall se....

Quarterly Updates

Yes quarterly or every 4 months- whichever comes later. It seems Magellan caused this latest delay before being posted on AAA website. Still a good feature when combined with build in POIs and custom POIs.
