Update for Nuvi 6XX , Version 4.10 to 4.20

FYI, an update for my 680 posted today. I think it is for all 6XX series. About 2 minutes to install.

Changes made from version 4.10 to 4.20:

Improved the map drawing speed.
Corrected issue with proximity points in areas with many roads causing the map to draw slower.
Corrected issue where all traffic delays were represented as 1 minute.

Use the web updater.

I never use 3D mode, so I don’t know about that. But track up certainly had a scale on mine. The Garmin support rep agreed, as do many posters here and on GPS Passions.

I think I updated from 3.8. Perhaps you had to go back that far to see it.

That's strange. Mine never had it in track up mode. It's weird how many 660s react differently to the same firmware upgrade. You lost the scale in the track up mode, some lost it all together and mine remained unaffected. Wonder why. Should all have the same hardware. I think I've had mine since 3.8 or earlier as I've done at least 3 or 4 firmware OS updates, aside from the GTM ones.

The 350's have a scale in track and north up.

I found two more bugs with the 4.20 firmware:

1) If you have a traffic alert (yellow warning sign) and press the lower right button (the turn in X miles button), all you get is the traffic alert information
2) On freeways, the top banner used to say what street was coming up by name (“Exit name ahead”), but after the 4.20 upgrade, all it says is the exit number (“10 ahead”)

These bugs have been reported on this thread: http://www.gpspassion.com/forumsen/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=100799

I called Garmin, and they were not aware of them. I mentioned the map scale thing again, and this time they said removing it was a deliberate decision.

If Garmin is not aware of issues like these, they will never get fixed. I would like to urge as many of you as possible to call Garmin support and report these bugs. The more people who call, the more likely they will get fixed.

“Thanks for your support” grin

Upgraded 670

I just upgraded my 670 to 4.2 now I'm not sure I should have. Given that I am new at this I won't be able to give bug advice, however I appreciate the comments here.

Shortly after upgrading my 660 in Nov I had a horrible time finding and keeping satellites. I would lose them quite often or not find them on a clear day mounted to the window. I talked to Garmin support and we did some resets and tests and it was sent back for repair. I received a refurb with no explanation as of what the problem was. I had always wondered if it started with my upgrade to 4.20 (as it had worked great before). I am now very skeptical of upgrading again. Has anyone else had this problem? Have other 4.20 users been happy? I would appreciate your input. Thanks
