Map Update Problem

I posted the following to Tech Support and can't get a response.
"I have received the update, City Navigator North America NT 2008; However it won't install from my Mac. The update program finds the GPS OK. Unit ID 3325373190 It asks for product key which I enter from the green label. It connects to the server and immediately says: "This Garmin GPS is not eligible for this update because previous map version is not installed" All indications are that it IS installed. When I go to settings, map info, it says "City Navigator North American NT 2008" Software version is 4.60"
My Garmin 350 has two .img files gmapbmap.img and gmapprom.img and a sum file gmaprom.sum
The update disk has gmappromA.img, gmappromL.img and gmappromU.img
Since I can't get the installer to work, I'm wondering whether I can just delete the .img files on the Garmin and copy the update files from the CD in their place.
That .sum file is probably a checksum and that might put a wrench on this idea.
Can someone shed any light on this for me?

I'm still waiting for my update for the 350 and hope I don't run into the same problem.
If it's just a simple drag and drop then the installer and serial number wouldn't be required. If you want to be brave then backup what ever are on your 350 and give it a try. But, I would called Garmin first before traveling on the possible path of no return.

Are you saying that your GPS unit already says this in the Map Info?
If so, your maps are already updated.

You mentioned your unit is running software version 4.6 . Just curious - have you run WebUpdater recently. My software version is 5.5 for my C330
unit - not sure about the C350 !

Updates
In working with the sp 2720 I have experanced that meny times an update is released pending new maps/programs. I would make sure you have the current updates installed.

I did run WebUpdater recently and 4.6 is the latest for the 350.
As far as having the latest map installed already:
If I understand things correctly the install program is checking for City Navigator North American NT 2008, so he can update it with the DVD that they sent me labled "Map Update 2008" for City Navigator North American NT 2008
Another clue is that according to the My Garmin registration info for my nuvi Map Update is available for my particular Map.
I'm one of those that recently purchased the 350 and was sent the free update.
I sure hope I don't have the latest map because it appears pretty obsolete in my town.
