Proximity

Still haven't gotten 'proximity alerts' functioning. Downloaded the POI from here on Illinois Rest stops. Reloaded with the POILoader with a 'custom' setting - 1500 feet proximity alert. Went to Northern Illinois over the weekend, must have passed 3 or 4 rest stops and not a single alert. Nor did it show up on my screen. Is this too big of a proximity? Any further suggestions?

naw, it isn't too big,

naw, it isn't too big, probably the rest area is too far off the road. Look at the map of the rest area and see if it is RIGHT ON THE ROAD. If it isn't, then that is probably your issue.

Combined Rest Areas

The new combined rest area POI file has been uploaded to Miss POI. This file should fix all those Rest Areas too far off road to give alert.
Contains rest areas for all lower 48 states.

I agree with asianfire. I

I agree with asianfire. I drove to Florida and found if the rest area sits back off the road, it will not alert. I expanded out to a half mile and that did the trick.

Is the file up?

Some Gps models when you click on your custom poi file click save to favorites then the alerts will work because thats how my 2720 works

I am working on it I just sent a confirmation email to Ken regarding the text description.

Miss Poi

Proximity

Even Though you have the custom poi's installed with alerts they will not work unless you put those rest areas in your favorites on the gps

So let me get this straight

I can load a POI file. Set the proximity. And unless I put each and every one of the gazillion rest areas in my 'favorites' they won't go off?????

That's the most ludicrous thing I've heard. If that's the case, I see no point in using POIs.

.

Take a deep breath and relax. smile

I'm pretty sure that on the nuvi 350 the alerts will go off with them being POIs and not favorites.

However, the location of the POI must be on the road on which you are traveling and sufficiently close to the road in order to set off the alert.

If it is and if you set the alerts when you loaded them and if you have the alerts enabled on your unit, the alerts should sound just fine.

Breaaaaaaaaaaaaaathing...

Inhale...

...exhale..

It's still ludicrous.. lol

Seriously, can anyone answer this definitively. The problem I see is - when is a POI EVER going to be 'on' the route. In other words, if the Rest Areas aren't - how can a Starbucks or anything else have a chance in heck of showing up?

Thanks for the Zen moment MM smile
