How do I insert a sound into an existing POI file?

I made a sound file (MP3) but how do I insert it into an existing POI file that I downloaded from here? I want to be notified when I am within a mile of the POI point.

Also, the file that I uploaded has 484 POIs, but it looks like my Nuvi 650 only has about 48 of the POIs. I uploaded it into the unit, does it not support more than 48 POIs? Do I need to put them into an SD card instead?

Name it the same

Name the MP3 the same as the POI file and place it in the same directory as the POI file. When you use POI Loader to transfer the POI file to the GPS, the MP3 (and icon if named the same) will transfer with it. Set your alert in POI Loader to 1 mile for your notification.

.

If click on the sounds link at the top of the page and scroll to the bottom of that page, you will find instructions on how to load the sounds so that they will be associated with your POIs.

Also, you will need to run POI Loader in MANUAL mode instead of EXPRESS mode in order to set alerts for your POIs.

Your GPS unit will show the closest 50 locations to your current position. The list will change as you move to reflect this as well. The others are there and you can search for them by name or by browsing the map.

Well, maybe not....

I did the poiloader thing, named the files the same, they did upload, (and said that it uploaded all 484 POIs) but when I went to a map location near the one that has one of the custom POIs, it shows the POI, but it doesn't show the custom .BMP I also uploaded (named the same). And when I look in the POI folder it only shows poi.gpi. Should it show the other files, the mp3 file and the BMP file, or is it incorporated into the poi.gpi file?

And the field for the distance to set is labeled "ft" - so I put in 5280, the number of feet in a mile. Is that right?

I hate being so dumb...

Sounds like you did it

Sounds like you did it right, make sure that you zoomed in at least 300 to 200 ft. If you still don't see it, MAKE SURE, double, triple check the spelling of the bmp and mp3 files. What I usually do, is copy/paste the name from the poi for the name of the mp3 and bmp, and then change the extention.

The poi.gpi file incorporates the 3 files together, so you are correct.

yes, 5280 is correct if you want a mile's alert.

Well Tim said most of it before I did.

It has to be the same name

It has to be the same name as the file you put in. So if you but in redlight.cvs the audio file needs to read redlight.mp3 and they need to be in the same folder.

I didnt know that cvs had

I didnt know that cvs had redlights...j/k

When I first started my job, I kept saying cvs for a long time, couldnt get that drug store out of my mind.

JSFJr, be sure to double and triple check for double file extensions. Also, be sure you are observing the same case in your filenames.

to add what mm said, make

to add what mm said, make sure that you have "Hide extensions of known types" unchecked. Because you may actually be doubling up on the extension, for example, you may see redlight.csv, but the computer (cause the extensions are hidden) actually sees redlight.csv.csv

FYI: I know you're a newbie but a lot of this has been covered in recent posts. I've used the search and it's very useful, maybe you should too.
