need help choosing between 2 GPS's (c550 / 250W)

hello everyone, I have a quick question for you guys.... which GPS would you guys recommend me buying, the Garmin C550 Streetpilot, or Garmin nüvi 250W. ???? The price is only a 50 dollar difference...... I had my mind set on the Garmin nüvi 250W, but then saw the Garmin C550 Streetpilot for 50 bucks more..... thanks so much for the help...

Your decision

It depends on which fits your needs the best; it's your decision, but here are some differences:

The C550 has TTS (text-to-speech ... speaks street names, not just "turn in 100 feet"), MP3 player, Bluetooth, is FM traffic compatible, longer lasting battery, and has a headphone jack for audio out ... nuvi250 doesn't.

The nuvi250 is smaller and lighter (same size display). It has picture-viewer and "World travel clock, currency & measurement converter, calculator" ... the C550 doesn't.

Here's Garmin's side-by-side comparison.

If you're thinking of the nuvi250 and can swing the extra cash, I'd suggest looking at the nuvi350/360 line. "It has so much more for just a little more". Good luck.

c550

One nice feature of the c550 is a manual volume control on the exterior of the unit in the form of a track wheel. I find this feature quite helpful when I want a low navigation voice but immediate higher volume for a bluetooth phone call.

I have had the 530 and the nuvi 350.

530 has better...
sound, display, bluetooth

350 has better...
size, tech stuff

if size doesn't matter to you and you don't need/want all the extra stuff, go for the 550.

You linked to the Nuvi250 and the question was about the nuvi250w which has a bigger screen. Other than that it appears to be the same as the 250.

Tour Files

I bought the 250W and love it. But then I read about Tour Files, where an mp3 can play when you pass a location and tell you about it. This sounds neat, but of course the 250W will not play mp3 files so I can't use it. If you want a feature like this, then get a model that supports mp3 files.

250W

I have the 250W - does all my navigation needs very well and I can get maps for other countries (at some cost). It is small and light - easily fits in a pocket and I have found that the out of car battery life is about spec (though I do want more).

The extras - if you are just navigating forget the extras - 250 does have a picture viewer but you would have to be desperate to need it. As for the other stuff - buy a phone!
