Buying US maps for TomTom

Hi,
i want to travel to calfornia this month. So i need some maps of calfornia. Here in germany it costs app. 100$. Is is better to buy it in germany or in california? Are the maps availible in stores or online only ?

Most recent maps you have to buy online, the stores only sell you the unit. With recent dollar depreciation, you probably better off buying through the US portal.

Buy it when you get to LA.
Even better, when you get to California...
Go to any Automobile Club office, find one with their website www.aaa.com, they even have some basic maps available online.
They sell every kind of travel service map and book you can think of. I never go anywhere without checking with them first. Most offices are open on Saturdays too.
