Hello Forum,
I am new to this forum and this is my first post. The last time I updated my Nuvi 350 (I think I updated it to 4.50), my user data disappeared. Is there a way to back up user data like recent selections, and personal POI's ?

Backup everything
After the problems mentioned at

I would suggest backing up the whole GPS. Just create a folder on your computer's hard drive and copy the whole thing. I backup before installing anything, be it on my computer or GPS.
With that said:
Your favorites file is:
[your drive letter]nuvi\Garmin\gpx\current.gpx
Your custom POIs are in:
[your drive letter]nuvi\Garmin\Poi folder. There's probably only one file there but could be more, depending on how you save your custom POIs.

Not with c330
Unfortunately I can't do this with my c330. It doesn't show up as a drive. Does anyone know how to backup for c330.
Backing up Favorite POI on the Nuvi 350
When the Nuvi is connected to the computer, it will show up as a new drive named "Garmin nuvi" on the root tree (Windows XP). When you expand the files there is a folder called "Garmin" and a sub folder called "gpx." In this folder is a file named "current.gpx" As explaind to me by Garmin TechSupport, copy this file to a save location. This is all your Favorite POI's you've entered. If you care for multiples of the same units, you can rename this file to reflect the owner. ie. Mine, Dad, Cousin It, just make sure that the .gpx is there. Then if needed you can copy this file back to your Nuvi 350 and it will read fine. The only tuning you may have to do is change the icons again. I hope this helped.

As you discovered, you can't. You can and should save your customized POI's on your PC. You can also save "My Favorites" on your PC using "Map Source". Other than that, nothing else you can do. Hope this helps...

As benson_mountain has mentioned, you need “MapSource”. You can get a copy of “MapSource” from Garmin. Just let them know you’re looking to make a copy of your favorites. In most cases it’s free; in others you pay a small price. It’s worth the phone call. Keep in mind your backup of your favorite in MapSource will be known as waypoints.
So Favorites = Waypoints. Also, if you qualify for a free map update 2008, MapSource is included in the CD.
