Miss Poi,
I just joined POI Factory and I must say it’s been very helpful in learning the ins and outs of my new Garmin 530. Many thanks for a job well done and to everybody who contributes to the success of POI Factory.
This morning, I downloaded the Red Light Camera list for the first time. Great job, Miss Poi.
When I looked at the list in Excel, it was not possible to see at a glance all the cameras in my state. So for my own use, I decided to change Column D so that the state is listed first and I then re-sorted the list using Column D as my first sorting option. In order to have all camera in Canada listed together, I added “CDA” in front of the province. This way, all cameras are listed by state, then by town, while the Canadian cameras are all listed together by province, then by town; right after California.
Here are a few examples of the data in Column D:
CA Yuba City poi-factory Sep12 07
CA Yuba City poi-factory Sep12 07
CDA AB Calgary poi-factory Sep12 07
CDA AB Calgary poi-factory Sep12 07
The advantages to this are:
- it’s easy to find all the cameras in one or more states.
- if someone wants to load cameras in a GPS for a few states only or only the Canadian cameras, it can be done easily by deleting the unwanted states.
- if you want to check if a specific camera is on the list so you can send it in, you can quickly find out by state and city.
I thought it could be helpful to others. I did the same thing for the speed camera list. I did not change anything else on the two lists.
Many thanks again for your good work, it’s really appreciated.

Using POI Verifier (do a search on this site for more info), you can select out data from one or more states and or Canada.

Sorting by state
Thanks for the suggestion Clem
I made a change so that State now appears before City in column 4 of the file. This will make it easier for people who are handy spreadsheets to sort by state.
