Screen protection anyone?

What's your take on screen protection for your touchscreen. Are the garmin touchscreen well made where scratches rarely happen or should we all run out and get one?

Seems..

like a real waste of $$$$$ to me. Initially I thought it a good idea, but after I got my 360, I realized that there was very little chance of me scratching the thing.

Just my opinion.

I don't have any screen

I don't have any screen protection on my 7-month-old Garmin, and it still looks like new. I do have a screen protection on my PDA, which I replace frequently since it's constantly getting scratched.

I think it's the difference between a fingertip and a stylus. Fortunately, I can still operate my Garmin with my "fat" fingers.

I don't think my fat fingers will be a problem with scratching, it's the long finger nails of people trying to use it.

Screen Protection Anyone?

I agree...screen protection is a waste of money.
When I first got my GPSr...I looked for a screen protector and finally ended up getting one off of Ebay.
It applied easily enough but made the Nuvi to hard to see in direct sunlight. I guess I should have scouted for a non-glare one.
I ended up scratching the screen taking off the screen protection...go figure.

I thought about getting a screen protector, but reasoned not needed since I always keep my Nuvi in the leather case unless I am using it. And finally the leather case provides much needed durability. I accidentally dropped my Nuvi about 3 feet on to solid concrete today. I nervously powered it on and it still works fine...

Agreed, not needed

I thought about a screen protector as well.
Almost a year later and the screen on my C550 still looks good as new.

My screen still is as good as new, because I use protection. Check out Boxwave. I have the Crystal and I think it looks clearer than direct-view! Anyone complaining about glare should look at their anti-glare product. I haven't used it, but I am very impressed with this company....

Y'all should be taking your unit in/out of the windshield at the least. With the moving around (and the sizable investment), a little protection is a good thing.

That does sound a little cheap. How much do they cost?

A little too pricey for one.

Ha!

I knew that biting my nails would come in handy for something someday!

Ok, if you are a female (or male) with long finger nails, maybe protection is needed. However, if you don't and keep it in the case, you don't need protection. Dang, that almost sounds like we are talking about.......well, you know.

Here is a very highly recommended screen protector

This product gets great reviews. If you need a screen protector, this is probably the one to get. It is made from material originally created for the military to protect the leading edges of their helicopter blades. The demos of this stuff are scary, but it really works. Not cheap.
Enjoy,

"protect the leading edges of their helicopter blades" do I need something like that?

Hey, you never know when your GPSr will have to weather a hail storm or survive the direct hit of a migrating bird!

If that happens

You have more pressing issues then screen protectors

I got one, a bit tricky to put on, but see no real need for the thing. I use my finger anyway, so the chances of scratching the face is slim to none.

Screen Protectors

I think I still have one around here that I bought and never used. It's hard to scratch the screen with the tip of my finger and it's in the leather case when it's not being used. If I were to drop it, the odds of the screen protector actually doing a whole lot to protect it from a hit on a rock or anything are probably pretty slim. They are only thin plastic after all.

Screen Protection?

Putting your Garmin in your pocket with your car keys to keep if from being stolen while your in the store can raise havoc with your screen. I have found that just fingers and finger nail tips don't seem to phase it. If you put it in your pocket, put it in a case first.

Screen Protection?

Save your money. I have mine over 14 months and still looks brand new. If you are careful, it will look ok as time goes on.

Screen protector

When I first bought ny Nuvi, I was considering getting a screen protector. But after using it for a while, I realized it is not needed. If it used a stylus I would get one, but since it is just your fingertip, not needed
