Hi there,
I'm pretty new in the todays GPS World and switched just recently from a Garmin GPS 12 to a Garmin DriveSmart 76.
I'm tying to overlay a custom JPG on my GPS but it doesn't seem to work.
The KMZ seems to be fine as it can be imported into Google Earth and the content is also shown in Basecamp when select the SDcard on my Gamin device, but on the Garmin itself nothing is shown at all.
Many thanks for any hint of what could be wrong?

DriveSmart isn't listed as compatible with BirdsEye
DriveSmart isn't listed as compatible with BirdsEyeBirdsEye Satellite Imagery Subscription..

Does that imply that the device is not supporting KMZ overlays which are using images?
Maybe this can be tweaked a the OS level?
Map files
I don't think any of the Garmin "On the Road" series of navigation devices ever supported map overlays like this, going way back to the Street Pilot and nuvi devices. AFAIK, .img files are the only types of maps that will work on these devices.

Well
Afraid you can't. As alandb says your device isn't compatible with custom maps, see https://support.garmin.com/en-US/?faq=xbQGSy1tl95uO4ZmONdQZ8
