Using Garmin Express on older versions of Windows

I think a lot of individuals are using older versions of Windows. Someone on the Garmin forums reports successfully using Garmin Express 7.28 on Windows 7 using the utility at https://vxkex.com/

Note that at present the individual doesn’t mention a successful map update using the workaround.

No problems because 7.17.3.0 is compatible with Windows 7

As of January 6th 2026 the current version of Garmin Express (7.28.0) will not operate on any Windows version prior to Windows 10.

A few years back, Garminn stated “With the release of Garmin Express 7.18.0, support for Windows OS versions 8 and older is being dropped.

The latest version of Garmin Express, including 7.18.0, may still work on these older OSes, however, we will no longer be investigating and resolving any issues that arise in Garmin Express on OSes 8 and older.”
