What Are The Differences Between These Two Garmin Suction Cup Mounts?

Garmin lists both a Suction Cup Mount 010-11932-01 and Suction Cup 010-10747-00. What are the differences between these two Garmin suction cup mounts?

From appearances they've

From appearances they've redesigned the suction cup lever. On the redesigned model the actual lever is both more narrow and does not extend past the suction cup. The "standard" model lever is wider as the edges are not recessed into the mount's groove, and the lever itself extends past the suction cup.

Expect the "standard" model to be discontinued in favor of the redesigned version. The main question to be determined is whether Garmin redesigned the suction cup itself so it holds more firmly to the glass. Otherwise GPS receivers are still going to fall off windows, which a bean bag mount will resolve.

One costs a dollar more than the other. mrgreen

Sorry, I couldn't resist.

Ball size ?

I thought I read somewhere that the ball size is bigger to accommodate the larger units

Ralph6410 is Right

Look at the listed compatible devices for each of the mounts.

010-11932-01 is for larger devices so it will have a larger ball and a larger diameter base.

Then that distinction is

Then that distinction is new. My DS76, bought brand new from Best Buy, came with 010-10747-00 in the box. My refurbished DS65, bought off Amazon, also came with that mount in the box. So it cannot be a ball size difference. It still could be the larger base: the picture really isn't the best. If it is just the base then why is the larger base less expensive than the smaller? That doesn't make much sense.

I was Wrong

Sorry, I got it wrong. They both use the same size ball joint (17mm).

However, the 010-11932-01 it does have a larger diameter base, 70mm.

The 010-10747-00 base is 55mm.

010-11932-01 must be an

010-11932-01 must be an add-on accessory, since it isn't standard in the box for the DS76.

I checked the Garmin site about the 010-10747-00 mount. It doesn't have the DS76 or DS65 on the compatible device list. Garmin may have changed what they put in the box after you bought them.

The wider base on the 010-11932-01 should improve its ability to stick to the windshield.

I still prefer a beanbag mount.

I have a beanbag mount.

I have a beanbag mount. smile

I'm not losing any sleep over it, but maybe I should ping Garmin and ask them to send me the correct mount, since the older one isn't it.

Couldn't hurt to ask. Worst that can happen is they say no. If you're lucky they send a new one for free, or at a discounted price.

Good things about a beanbag mount. Easy to store out of sight when parked without having to wipe off the windshield. Don't have to worry about states where windshield mounts are prohibited or have restricted use. The device is closer to the user. And, the device doesn't have as far to fall.

Suction cups

i have never had any success using the suction cups. Whenerver I used one, it would fall off. I am happy with the beanbag mount. The only thing I do not like about the beanbag mount is that it does not stay in place on the dashboard. If I could stop it from sliding around, I would give it would be perfect.

I use something called "Sticky Cup" best suction cup I've ever used, almost have to pry it off to get it off the windshield. I would leave the cup on and just remove the Garmin from the mount. If somehow it does lose it's stickiness you can refresh it with water.

My solution was remove the suction part and Gorilla® glue to attach the base to a hockey puck scalloped to fit the dash and glued where it suits me.

I realize..

Suction cup mounts are the only option for some vehicles and bean bags aren't always a viable solution either.

I've wrestled with GPS mounts for 2 decades and found a solution that has worked for me in 8 different vehicles so far.

I use these anti slip, slightly sticky pads that don't mar the dash:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B075Q8219T?ref_=ppx_hzsearch_conn_...

They can be washed with soap & water to restore adhesion if necessary.

I place it on a relatively flat section of the dash and lay a piece of flat metal on top. I cut the suction cup off the Garmin mount and
glue a round magnet in it's place. The now magnetized mount sticks to the metal plate and is easily adjusted or removed with no harm to the dash surface.

It takes a little DIY, but I've never had one shift in many thousands of miles.
