GPS voice volume increase

Hi!
I'm hearing impaired and want to increase the volume on my GPS beyond its maximum. Can anyone help me?
My device model is: "Garmin Drive 53", which uses ".vpm" voice files.
Thank you.

Thinking outside the box

And I don’t own a Drive 53, but since the device has bluetooth capability I wonder if it could be paired with a set of Bluetooth speakers?

GPS Bluetooth

Hi John! The Drive 53 has no Bluetooth. Unfortunately.

Unfortunately, there is no

Unfortunately, there is no way to edit the .vpm file to increase its volume. Back when GPS receivers didn't have anything more than "turn left" and "turn right" we had TurboCCC's TTS Voice Editor, which could edit the files to increase the volume or, in my case create a truly silent voice. With the introduction of spoken street names the voice editor became useless.

As you found out, the Drive 53 doesn't have Bluetooth. You would need a DriveSmart 66 / 76 / 86 to get that.

Lots of conflicting info

Seems as though some sources say the device has Bluetooth but it doesn't. That being said, according to the manual there is something called "audio mixer" that enables volume setting of specific audio. It might be worthwhile to verify that the desirable audio is set to maximum in the mixer. If needed the manual is at (you may need to copy >> paste) https://www8.garmin.com/manuals/webhelp/GUID-B9B0B1F8-C5B4-463F-AAA8-F394D1492A06/EN-US/Drive_53_OM_Help_(NA)_EN-US.pdf and the content about the audio mixer is on page 4. You can't make the individual sounds louder than the full master volume.

Volume increase!

I assume if you are hearing impaired that you wear hearing aids. If not, you need to try them. They didn't help me as much as I had hoped, but they did make a huge difference. Before hearing aids, I would have my Nuvi at 90% - 100%, now it's usually at 60%.

Agreed

I have moderate hearing loss and have had hearing aids for a couple of years now. I agree with Warrendon that with the aids, I not only can lower the volume of the GPS, but that I hear the instructions more clearly.

For the past year or so, the US allows OTC hearing aids to be sold. I haven't looked into them since I have prescription aids, but for folks with only a moderate hearing loss, these OTC aids may help at a fraction of the price ot Rx aids. I'm not sure of the availability of aids in Brazil, though.

To the OP, do you really

To the OP, do you really need voice guidance?

Many years ago (2007 or 2008), I got my first gps for the motorbike. As I didn't use a helmet with audio (found it distracting), I had no audio way of hearing the directions. It was visual only.

To this day, any gps I use, including smartphone, built-in nav in the car, or the trusty garmin; all audio is muted/disabled. This also eliminates the annoyance of it constantly repeating "recalculating" when I deviate off course.

This may involve retraining yourself to peek at the gps more often.
