For anyone still interested, there are a few used 2689's on eBay in the $30 to $50 range. Some appear to be in good shape.
I used to buy & sell GPS equipment on eBay and I've had a good success rate with used units. The trick is to deal with well rated sellers, read the ad carefully and ask questions.
I have no idea how many I've bought & sold over the years but only two had to be returned. eBay has a good policy in effect to protect buyers.
I occasionally see refurbished units available from sites like GPS City and The GPS Store. If you go this route, be sure they are factory refurbs with a warranty. Those sold on Amazon may or may not be factory refurbished, but you get some protection from Amazon's return policy.
I used to make a few $$ by looking for bargain priced GPSr's on eBay and reselling at a higher price.
eBay has a feature that will notify you via email when an item matching your description is listed. If anyone is interested, here's how to set it up:
Perform a search: Go to eBay and search for the specific item you are interested in.
Save the search: Look for the "Save Search" option on the search results page and click it.
Enable email notifications: By default, you'll receive email alerts when new items matching your saved search are listed, according to eBay. You can also adjust notification settings if needed.
Follow the search (alternative): Some search results pages may also offer a "Follow this search" option. Clicking this and enabling email notifications will achieve the same result.
I am hesitant to buy on EBay. Especially with electronics which may be non-operable. I have heard a lot of bad stories about disreputable sellers.
I personally have found eBay to be very reliable and often quite a benefit for locating parts for old devices (my 2000 Porsche included). In the case of this listing, the seller has a 100% rating. Over many years I have purchased quite a few items and although I've gotten the wrong item a few times, refunds or replacements were readily done.
All that being said, the unit, although "new open box", could be as much as 11 to 12 years old so one wonders about the battery condition and the seller does not accept returns. I have a 2689 and it is a great GPS. If it died I would likely buy this unit as a replacement.
Interesting
