bought a Sony PS5

At my age--I had thought I'd make it my lifetime avoiding them.

The reason for getting it is so my kid can learn the rules and strategy of ice hockey. No joke, as a parent who has a K or 1st grader or 3rd grader (granted my kid is older i.e. 5th) on how they learned the rules, and they'll say gaming.

It's probably a pandora's box as people at work well over 45 y.o. all are avid gamers. Last week they were talking about an addictive power washing game. My buddy said with all the tech that's in those consoles, can you imagine power washing a deck, or a van?

And they are hot commodities as well. I ordered online, and when I checked the status, it had already been picked up (not by me). I thought here we go again, I'll dispute it with my CC, and lose. Because they always side with the merchant, regardless of the facts.

The new PS5 units with the

The new PS5 units with the separate disk drive are not nearly as good as an older unit that included the disk drive to begin with. Not just price, but in terms of build quality: the older ones are simply of higher quality.

Better off saving a little money and getting a used one.

Probably true of most Sony products

I've long been a fan of Sony products but I do think the older products, many of which came from Japan, are of better quality and more conservatively rated than the newer stuff.

My PS2 is still going

My PS2 is still going strong, if that is any indicator.

showing my age

When I was in college, I wanted (not realistically just a dream) a Sony D5 (TC-D5). Today, on eBay, they cost as much as they did brand new back then. It was "the" gold standard and even when digital arrived, people wanted the D5 (new model was WM-D6).

True, the newer is not always better than the old. Cars have steadily declined over the last 20 years. I say they peaked 2006-2010.

On the PS5, it was $75 off due to a bundle (I see price is identical no matter where sold, just interesting, to get the "Fortnite" bundle, it's $75 cheaper than straight up, without).
