nuvi lag time

Does anyone using a Nuvi have an explanation as to why there is a lag time in showing your current location on the map when moving, usually around a second or two. I noticed when driving and I go past a road the vehicle icon doesnt show me at the road until I am maybee 100 feet past the road. I'm thinking that this is normal behavior of the Nuvi but would like to know why.

Surely I'm not the only one

Surely I'm not the only one to notice this!

Talk Time

It may be different phenomena than you describe, but I notice on my nuvi660 that map updating is delayed by The Voice having something to say and also by a route recalculation.

Other than this and/or when the unit has no sky view, I have not seen the behavior.

Cheers.

Yes, I also have noticed this

Yes, I also have noticed this on my 350. I feel confident that its a redraw or refresh issue. When I stop at an intersection the icon is dead on, its only when I am moving that I notice this phenomenon.

My C530 Manual

Under Technical Specifications: States that the update rate is 1/second.

Redraw Noodling

Try changing your nuvi Settings to show less Map Detail.

Also, I wonder if your zoom level is too distant (taking in a larger map area, increasing drawing time). Does it get faster if you hit the "+" a couple times?

Good luck.

I have tried less detail and

I have tried less detail and still noticed the lag issue. I will try increasing the zoom level and see if that helps.

Some usless information from me.

That just made me think if I were in the Space Shuttle traveling @ 17,500 MPH and a few feet off the ground on one of our interstate highways, its possible that in that one second update time, I could have overshot my turn my 4.86 miles:)

hope on the horizon?

Thanks for that link petlaur, after reading through the pages it seems that Garmin will be testing a new beta software soon so we shall see if that fixes it.

Your most welcome drew. I

Your most welcome drew. I put my best educated guess forward as to why the lag. I, and others, feel it may be an underpowered processor which may not be keeping up with the map refreshes. Owners of nuvi 3xx units do not seem to report similar lag issues on their smaller screens. Garmin reps don't seem to be saying much so we're left to guess. I also hope that the new beta software will solve this issue once and for all.
