You certainly can! I've used many different files from here. The only limitation I've found is you can only have one set of custom poi's "loaded" on the 4040 at a time. This means for alert purposes you can't have the "walmart" poi file loaded in the units main interface along with the "Target" poi file. You can have dozens of custom poi files on the sd card. Sorry if this sounds confusing.
