3597 phone link problem

Ok.. stupid question time.

I've a 3597.

When it powers up, it connects to my cell phone via blue tooth.

In the top right corner of the 3597, there used to be the little Garmin link symbol, and in the top left corner of the Garmin was an image of the phone.

Because I have the phone connected to the car via Bluetooth, I could touch the Garmin link symbol on the display of the 3597 and select my phone then uncheck the enable phone calls function so the GPS & the car wouldn't fight over which device was talking to the phone.

Lately, the Garmin no longer presents the Garmin l8nk symbol in the tip right hand part of the 3597 for me to disable the hands free calling function to the Garmin.

Yet, when a call comes in, the garm8n seems to want to think it's in controll.

If I mute the call using the Garmin, it mutes the call in the cat. Similarly, if I hang up the call using the Garmin, it hangs up the call in the car.

Anyone else observe this strange behavior?

I'm stumped

Thanks in advance for everyone's help on this baffling behaviour

After updating the firmware & map on my three 3597's, I had the same problem. I fixed the issue by deleting the phone from the GPS and then re-pairing.

This worked on two of the units but I had to also do a hard reset on the third to clear the problem.

Thanks @Bdhsfz6

I deleted the phone and paired it before previously.. but that no longer works

I'll give the hard reset a whirl and see what happens.

Thanks in advance!

Nope

Hard reset didn't do it.. any other ideas?

3597 bluetooth

I assume you are leaving your phone paired with the 3597 for Smartphone Link traffic and just want to disable the 3597 handsfree calling function? That is done in the menu Apps selection (not in Settings where it seems like it should be). Click on Apps, then Smartphone Link, then on your paired phone. The first item in the list is "Hands Free Calling". It is checked by default, but can be unchecked.

This is true but it doesn't explain why the Garmin "connected" icon in the upper right of the screen disappeared.

I was able to clear the problem by re-pairing and a hard reset but apparently it didn't work for Barney.

Using the menu is always a possibility but more complicated than just touching the icon, especially while driving.
