Question on FM traffic activation

I bought a Nuvi 660 from Costco a month or so ago and it came with the FM traffic power plug. I live in an area where there is no traffic coverage.

I'm taking a trip to an area with traffic coverage next month, and wonder how the three month free subscription is activated. Will it pop something up on the Nuvi screen when it suddenly receives an FM station with the traffic subcarrier, or will it require me to do something online?

If I like how it performs, I'll likely pay the $60/yr for traffic coverage, as I make enough trips to bigger cities each year for it to be valuable. But I don't want to pay before I play.

680

I have a 680...and I think they will work the same..you will need to activate it first..

Go to http://garmin.msndirect.com/activate
or call 1-866-658-7032

I think after I did this a MSN butterfly popped up and it gave me a code to log into the web site for activation..

So you need to be connected to the internet when you activate it..

I've been in DC, Denver and heading to Detroit area this weekend so far it's worked very well!

Activates when it gets service

The 660 has a GTM 20 (FMC traffic receiver built into the 12V charger/plug). It comes with a 3 month subscription, which is activated when the Nuvi is on the mount, and there are both GPS and FM traffic signals present. The second light (closest to the cord) will be orange until it acquires the traffic signal, at which point it will turn green.

You can purchase the $60 12 month subscription at any time - although if you are trying it out obviously you would wait until you play with it. The 12 months will be added to the balance of the 3 month - you don't have to wait for it to expire.

Thanks

Thanks. That's exactly what I needed to know. It'll just work like a normal power supply cord until it detects a signal, then presto-chango, I've got traffic!
