The Dash Navigation "Express" versus Garmin

All the press on the Dash Express seem to herald it as the second coming in GPS navigation. Read an excellent post that calls all that into question at:

http://theunloadingzone.blogspot.com. Look in the Table of Contents for "Dash Express: Garmin Killer or just Hype?

By the way, Ms POI, do you know the author? He links back to this site.

I'll pass...

Here's a pic of their new unit. It's form factor is eerily similar to Nuvi 2xx-series's beveled-edges. But it has (ughh) 7 buttons on the right-hand side which takes up valuable realestate of already small unit, thus resulting in tiny display area. I hate physical buttons...it's so 20th century. They need to hire a good useability engineer.

It's also a linux-powered unit so I question level of interfacing capability with PCs (though might be better for Mac users)

Besides, it's hard to beat Garmin's customer support.

Why Interrface

According to their web site, it automatically, and wirelesly updates maps and software right on your dash, so why would you even need a PC. However, I don't care for the buttons.
Think I'll just keep my Nuvi.

I doubt all software updates can be down via wireless...

Wireless is controlled by unit's firmware, so it'll be hard to update wireless component while you're downloading.

Plus if they allow loading POI, then it would be more efficient to be able to do it from your PC (similar to POI Loader).

Also, I've read that the monthly download is ~$15.
