Submitting Corrections For Google Maps & Getting Google Fi Airtime

I ran across something recently about Google rewarding contributors to corrections for Google Maps. They give Google Fi airtime. This is the first I have heard of it. Does anybody here know anything more about this?

yes

I have submitted corrections to Google Maps and gotten Google Fi airtime, but I don't know what that is.

Google Fi (pronounced /faɪ/), formerly Project Fi, is an MVNO telecommunications service by Google that provides telephone calls, SMS, and mobile broadband using cellular networks and Wi-Fi. Google Fi uses networks operated by T-Mobile and U.S. Cellular. Google Fi is a service for US residents only, as of late 2019.[1]

The service was launched for the Nexus 6, by invitation only, on April 22, 2015. The service was opened to the public on March 7, 2016,[2] and support for additional devices, including the Pixel and Pixel XL smartphones, was introduced on October 4, 2016.[3] On November 28, 2018, Google rebranded Project Fi as Google Fi and added support for more phones, including partial support for iPhones.[4]

how to submit

My corrections have all been for the location of a POI, not to the map itself. The map has always been accurate.

In Google Maps, zoom in and click on the POI to be edited. A page is displayed with the name of the POI. Click on the review stars, then click on "Overview." Click on "Suggest An Edit" and fill in the fields with your new info.

It takes weeks to months for Google to get back to you by email. The edits are usually approved, but sometimes inexplicably denied.

One such edit was a new phone number for my doctor. As a joke I edited two local prisons for business hours - open 24 hours! That one was approved!

Between my edits and reviews, I am a local guide.
