Custom POI sound not working in Honda

I got myself a Honda CR-V Hybrid 2022 car. It came with a Garmin navigator. I installed the speed cameras on it by editing and copying the GDI section of the GarminDevice.xml installation file. My POIs were installed well on the device, and they showed up well on the map.
But I didn't manage to hear the warning sound.
The audio file is PCM wav at 44,100 Khz and mono.
I did everything according to the Garmin POILoader instructions. Sox.exe is in the same folder as POILoader. I made a file with Manual settings. I set the proximity warning and gave the alarm the distance. All three files were in the same folder with the same name, Speed.csv, Speed.bmp and Speed.wav.
But why doesn't the warning sound work?
I also did a category search, but I couldn't find mine in the list.

Mgarledge FAQ

Erkki, Welcome to POI Factory! We have many members ready to help.

I am assuming you have a Honda (Garmin) GPS in the dashboard. If not, and the Honda came with an accessory Garmin GPS, which one is it?

Here is a link for a Honda Navigation FAQ:

http://www.poi-factory.com/node/42862

scroll down to Set Alerts (ON, OFF)

I haven't heard that anyone has been able to make audio proximity alerts work on the Honda (Garmin) GPS. If you succeed, you will be first!

I also haven't heard that anyone "has edited and copied the GDI section of the GarminDevice.xml installation file." !!!

Category search - Look at the top of the FAQ where mgarledge mentions that categories are created with the folders containing the POI files.

Custom POI sound not working in Honda

Honda (Garmin) GPS is a factory-installed device on the dashboard.
Can't find Set alarms (ON, OFF) on the device? Eliminated?
As I said, I have the sounds included in the POI file. Apparently, the Garmin operating system has been changed to a nuisance so that the own warning sounds are not played!!!
I can only install the POI file on the device using the map update function.
I've thought about connecting a laptop to the USB port to access the navigator's files, but I haven't dared to do it yet?
My POI is not a category in the search!

sox.exe

I'm not sure about how POILoader.exe and sox.exe work together in a built-in environment, but in a standalone environment sox.exe has to be at a specific level. You can read all about it at

http://www.poi-factory.com/node/16728

Sox.exe

Thanks for the advice, but could you clarify for me a little more what the built-in environment and standalone environment are regarding SOX.exe. I couldn't find any clarity on the matter in the link. Give an example of the topic.

Now I have SOX.exe and POILoader in the same folder. When I remove SOX.exe from the folder, POILoader reports that it did not encode the WAV file.

thank you Phil

built-in environment

We have no information on how POI Loader and sox.exe work together in the built-in environment. As far as I know, you are the first and only member to run POI Loader to a Honda (Garmin) GPS for proximity alerts.

POI Loader and custom POIs are not supported by Garmin.

In a Garmin GPS, POI Loader and sox.exe create a poi.gpi file (or an XXX.gpi file you name) that includes the POI positions, proximity alerts, sounds, and icons, and loads it into the GPS. Multiple .gpi files are permitted.

I think your install was done properly if POI Loader did not display an error.

. wav file

I would appreciate any members' comments about the required specifications of the .wav file to work with POI Loader. Just to be sure the audio will work.

I am not expert on this. redface

@Erkki Karjalainen

Make sure that you have installed the version 14.0.1 sox.exe. It can be found at http://www.poi-factory.com/node/25730 under B "Download Sox Exe" Note Sox.exe and Wav files are not supported by Garmin. A POI Factory member came up with this idea for adding voice alerts to custom POIS.

A little history on how sox.exe came about. http://www.poi-factory.com/node/13041

thanks charles

Charles' link to his FAQ also includes the specs for the .wav file:

PCM, 44.100 kHZ., 16 bit, Mono

Erkki's specs above on this page:

PCM wav at 44,100 Khz and mono

Is it 16 bit?

Garmin sox

Jes its Mono file

Thanks

Hello charlesd45

Who was this POI Factory member came up with this idea for adding voice alerts to custom POIS.
It would be good to know what he had done.

This isn't exactly what you want but it does show the interaction between POI Loader and sox.exe and may be of interest to you.

http://www.poi-factory.com/node/33887

Ignore the original Subject and skip down to where a suggestion is made to update to a newer version of sox, then the problems, then finally, an explanation of why 14.0.1 must be used. I suggest having a strong cup of coffee before and another during your reading of the thread. Note that many incorrect thoughts arose before the issue was solved. The sox discussion begins about halfway down page 1, with a reply Subject of "Which Socks Is Right For You?"

All in all, your issue is how/whether your Honda's GPS can handle custom POI audio alerts. If you find a way, let us all know. If you can't find a way, it may be that there is no way to achieve what you want.

Hornbyp was the one who got the ball rolling. The post I listed http://www.poi-factory.com/node/13041 4th one down, see Hornbyp dated 04/24/2008 - I put the voice alerts on my Nuvi 265 and many other did the same for their units that didn't have a mp3 player back during that time. He stated a frenzy for sure. See more info from Hornbyp at http://www.poi-factory.com/node/13429

Later on another member posted a different version of the sox.exe he claimed that would work. After several members tried it out they found out it gave false alerts and other problems. Through the years the sox version 14.0.1 has been the go to version.

Custom POI sound not working in Honda

I have been trying for a long time to get sounds on the speed cameras without success.
There has been a lot of advice, thank you all. I managed to get the icon installed. Now I put a slightly bigger icon, size 50x50 pixels, so now it can be seen well, even if there is no sound.
The only way to get them installed is to use the map update feature. It's difficult. My old portable navigator still works fine. If I set it to shout warnings?
Another option is the Android Auto app and Google Maps.

Also, I'll put my device information here if it helps: It's a dashboard version and fixed installation.
Garmin Navigator
Device: 1028902828
Software: 4.02
Honda 2.0

p.s. When I browsed through the device's information, the Ogg Vorbis license information came up.
I thought if that sound was an *.ogg file.
I made a *.ogg version of the sound, but it was also silent.

I have come to the conclusion that this Honda Garmin navigator does not let you install sounds on POI destinations?
Now I'm just waiting for someone wiser to solve the problem.

Thanks to everyone who participated in solving the problem.

E.K.
