My Beef about traffic light timing

What gets me is that they have money to install speed cameras, but they can not time the traffic lights correctly. The traffic light changes, and the traffic can not move because the next traffic light is still red. They design the timing of the traffic light timing to impede the flow of traffic instead of designing the timing of the traffic lights to help traffic move. Maybe if they designed the traffic lights to change synchronously, they could make more revenue from the speed cameras.

No problem, I won't EVER be

No problem, I won't EVER be going to NYC again. Once was enough.

The rest of New York state should put a fence up around NYC to keep convoluted thinking contained. Tin-foil hats should be issued to those that live within a 5-mile radius of the fence and should be tested yearly for signs of demented thinking.

I live in flyover country and the thinking here makes NYC's thinking very attractive. And,,, keep your aluminum to yourself. It use has a correlation with alzheimer's disease.

Speculation

There is no solid evidence to support that myth. And yes, the web can always rant-and-rave over anything.

Philadelphia had (at least) two streets that were timed perfectly, even had signs that told what speed the lights were timed for. Walnut out of town and chestnut into town. I haven't been on Walnut in a while but parts of Chestnut are still in sync. I take Chestnut every morning to work. Of course it only works when the lanes are clear of construction or double parkers.

When I moved to Phila in 1999, I could not believe the rampant red light running and lack of using turn signals. Then, I started to see things as they were.

People ran lights because the risk v. reward was there. One, no cops. Two, the lights are not synchronized so people who ran them got to their destination way sooner than those who didn't. It was explained to me people don't signal because there is a tendency to not let the person change lanes if they do. I said hmmm, that's a behavioral issue.

I just took my kid to the school bus and sure enough a Toyota Corolla ran the bus' reds. It's a mandatory suspension in PA but nobody cares because they're not going to be caught, we don't even have front plates here. It all boils down to behavior, imho. Tech can certainly make bad behavior more costly, but it's not as likely to correct a person's thinking.

Why do you think we are pushing for autonomous regions in NYS?
