Nuvi 2699LMTHD battery

My Nuvi battery dies after ~3 weeks of no use. I replaced the battery on 05/16/20 with a Newpower, and guess I need another one. The reviews on Amazon talk about poor long-term battery life (not running on battery time). Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be much else available other than the Newpower. It's almost like the Nuvi goes into Sleep mode to drain the battery this fast, but I do wait for the Off prompt when shutting it down. Has anyone else experienced somewhat short battery life for their replacements?

If you are not going to use

If you are not going to use the unit for long periods of time, shut the unit down by holing the power switch down until the Power Off prompt shows and choose shut down

Otherwise the unit only goes to sleep and continues to use power till the batty is depleted.

It's a gamble whenever you replace a battery. Sometimes you get one that's great, and others will crap out in under a year. I've had decent luck with Cameron Sino branded batteries off eBay. The #1 thing to remember more than anything else is to get the highest mAh possible with a battery replacement on a nuvi/Drive/DriveSmart/DriveAssist that uses wireless and BlueTooth. For older no-wireless nuvis, 750 to 850mAh works fine, but for models with wireless/BlueTooth, 1000mAh minimum if you can get it. This number will be printed directly on the back of the battery in plain sight.

Finding these batteries on eBay is done just by searching the Garmin battery part number such as "010-01188-02 battery" which would work in the 2699 (check the connector to be certain). From a quick search there are 1500mAh batteries available which should be a fine replacement.

OP shuts it down

OP stated “I do wait for the Off prompt when shutting it down.”

It should be noted that the battery life specification is “Up to 1 hour depending on usage and settings.” For all practical purposes this means the device must be powered in the car, even for short trips.

Thanks for Ah suggestion,

Thanks for Ah suggestion, the one I was looking at was 1100. I'll go look at ebay. Since the pandemic kicked off my driving, and hence my gps usage, is way down.

Thanks again!

Two charge related things to avoid

1st, make sure you turn the GPS Off as opposed to standby. Lithium batteries do not like being discharged to low levels. I know you say you turn it OFF, but allowing the battery to go very low, just a few times, by inadvertently leaving the device in standby, can seriously shorten the life. Does anyone else use the device, that may perhaps leave it in Standby mode?

2nd, the opposite end of the battery charging scenario is also important. Don’t leave it attached to a charger, perhaps in the home, for extended periods.

Powered Mode

I always just assume I need to use the vehicle power. I have a couple of old nüvi 760 models that I use. I've never gotten an "upgrade" as I love the 760. It can play through the car radio and it also handles .aud (Audible) books and .mp3 files for other audio books. I did replace the battery on one of them but I only use them when we do cross-country camping trips so it's not an issue having to use the vehicle power.

Nuvi 2699LMTHD battery - Final

A final bit of info.

I bought a 1500mAh battery off ebay. The mfg (not seller) is Cameron Sino Tech, it has a 12 month warranty, and is made in China. It did not come with a tool kit, but I have the tools from previous battery installs in other things. The listing had a Make An Offer, so I offered $15.53, or $2 off the $17.53 price. They came back with $17.00 so I bought it. The battery had about 1/2 charge, so it went on the juice for a while.

Thanks for all the suggestions. Happy routing!

I replaced the battery in my

I replaced the battery in my axon 7 phone with one from Cameron Sino Tech. Its capacity was lower than rated - using an inline charge meter while charging from 0 to 100%. After a few months, battery capacity reduced further, eventually getting to no better than the battery it replaced.

They did one warranty exchange, but at this point its not worth the effort.

Just curious

What is the big concern about how long the GPS runs on battery? Don’t most people have it plugged into the car 99.9% of the time?

I’ve only ever once used my Garmin on battery and that is when I went to Europe so I’d find my way walking.
But a PIA to carry a charger.

Sometimes it's nice to use the trip planner utility while sitting on the recliner!

worn out

Have the same model GPS and my battery is worn out. Does not hold much of a charge. Had it lock up while on a trip, couldn't get it rebooted. That evening I used a USB wall plug adapter, plugged it in and left it there for several hours and it came back to life. Issue has not repeated, but will replace the battery very soon.

fyi - all lithium batteries come with about 1/2 charge as that is the optimum storage charge.

buyer beware

FYI - mAh rating for a battery is largely a marketing ploy. There is some variation, but be careful if it looks to good to be true. One can only pack so much mAhs in the allotted space.
