Feature I wish was in GPS's: Interconnect GPS with Weather forcast!

Like existing FM Radio received traffic alerts, that will prompt a delay to destination.... but modulated also by weather forecasts! Could new extra data piggy back on existing FM Traffic? Why Not?! infrastructure and software already in place!

OR... Garmin has a Bluetooth APP for phones!.. How about their APP linking to Weather Forecast, and Bluetooth that data to GPS???

This would show the benefits of simultaneous live data from phones with stored map data from Garmin!

If Garmin is looking for low cost item to feature improve their GPS's, Why Not this direction?

Depends on the model…

…but the feature may already exist. See https://www8.garmin.com/manuals/webhelp/drivesmart50-60-70/E...

I have had that loaded on

I have had that loaded on phone for a couple years or more... I've sent a destination or 2 to the GPS with it.... But there has never been any weather alerts ever sent to GPS... from this APP that I'm aware of, during that time..!
Was un-aware it even supported weather data...

If it is something that is only done manuallly, and I'm watching road.... Maybe an "Automatic" switch to to it Automatically?

Have others used this? seen Weather Alerts? If so--How?

The basic (and I mean basic)

The basic (and I mean basic) weather from the LMTHD models using the GTM60 only gives right-now current temperature and 5-day forecast, and only in areas with HD coverage. https://coverage.here.com/hd-coverage.html

However, if you're in an HD coverage area *and* a weather event is severe enough to where a road closure occurs *and* your LMTHD model (2599, 2689, DriveSmart 50, DriveSmart 51, etc.) is set to automatically reroute around major traffic delays, then it will automatically reroute you around the bad stuff.

I just checked and nothing

I just checked and nothing in settings would seem to indicate it could be set to anything automatic...
Yep, we have 2x 2689's, but have never seen a route change due to weather...

Still seems to me as being a feature in waiting... and Now that I know the APP is written, and depending on location, might be used, is promising...

The day we started home, we were in Chicagoland, which would be major enough location... Crickets...
Here at home, Waynesville NC, we are outside coverage on map you listed... But we have received Road FM data when in car here, so ????

Did I miss something in APP?

Weather radios can provide alerts

Weather radios can provide alerts for severe weather. SEVERE.

Smartphone Link

At least with a 2689, Garmin is very explicit that you need Smartphone Link on the phone. See https://www8.garmin.com/manuals/webhelp/nuvi2509-2609/EN-US/...

Smartphone links works well on 3597 and Drivesmart 76 don't know how many others but you get radar and weather alerts for your destination

Pre-pandemic, when I was driving a lot I would get weather alerts all the time on my 3597 with Smart Link. Usually flash flood warnings.

But..

Given the accuracy of weather from our local radio station.. not sure I would trust the Garmin announcement much either. Seems you will get just as good an "advisory" by looking out the front window.

Don't want, or need, it on Garmin

I have NOAA Weather on phone that gives alerts where ever I go. And I can always check the app to see what the 7-day forecast is for the area I'm in.

You'd get better info looking out the window. If Garmin's weather data was as accurate as its traffic data, this GPS could do a great job of telling you what the forecast was anywhere from two hours to two days ago.

There is no mention of a required subscription. Have to use the Garmin Connect app on the smartphone or the GPS be on wi-fi.
