Garmin Dash Cam Red Light & Speed - Subscription Only

So I obviously have a Nuvi and a Drivesmart and download the Red Light and Speed Camera info from POI Factory but I was considering one of the Garmin Dash cams yet it doesn't look like it would accept POI Loader like the navigators do. The ad for the cams shows that it's a subscription service only.

Wondering if this is in fact the only way to see this info on the Garmin dash cams.

Anyone?

Guessing not too many people here have one of these. OK, I like the idea of it but would not want to pay a subscription to Garmin which probably isn't as good as the RLC info here anyway.

Dash cam

I am unclear about which device you are considering when you say "dash cam". Are you looking at a Garmin navigation device with a built in dash cam like the Drive Assist or RV 785? Or are you looking at a just a dash cam unit like the Garmin Dash Cam 47?

I don't have any direct experience with any of these, but as far as I know, the navigation units with built in dash cams like the Drive Assist support POI loader (including POI Factory camera files) just like all other models. The paid Cyclops subscriptions are available to many newer Garmin navigators, not just the ones with built in dash cams, and Cyclops capability doesn't preclude using POI Loader with POI Factory camera files.

I think I am misunderstanding your original question.

Yes...the Dash Cam only model (not the NAV).

It doesn't appear that POI Loader could work with these. Only works with Garmin's paid subscription. I wasn't sure if anyone here owned one of these and found it to work with POI Loader or not. I can't see paying for their subscription as it it's probably not as up to date as the updates here.

Thanks.

I wouldn't have expected this but if you go to the link you have, above, and scroll down, I see a section that states:

RED LIGHT AND SPEED CAMERAS
This camera's got you covered with alerts for nearby red light cameras and speed cameras. Not available in all regions. Learn more about purchasing a subscription for updates.

It may be worth a call to Garmin to see if a Cyclops subscription works with the Dash Cam 47. However, unless I missed it in the manual for the cam, I see no mention of POI Loader working with it so any custom POIs like the red light or speed camera files here at the POI Factory likely can't be installed. Note that the Cyclops subscriptions are a paid subscription.

I'd also call and confirm before buying a Dash Cam 47 that Garmin Express will load your desired subscription to a Dash Cam 47:

I've got to ask a question,

I've got to ask a question, here. If you have the Red Light/Speed Camera POI loaded on your GPS, why do you need to have it on the Dash Cam?The GPS is going to alert you.

Or are you diving with the Dash Cam by itself and expecting it to warn you?

I use the Garmin GPS when traveling in rental vehicles but not in my main vehicle. My main vehicle has a Pioneer Nav system from 2013 that does not have any features for RLC etc. I was looking to add a dash cam to the vehicle and thought this would be a way to get not only the dash cam but the RLC info added into the mix.
