Nuvi 265W / Basecamp

My nuvi 265W is not recognized by Basecamp even though the GPS shows the Mass Storage Mode on its display.
Also a removable disk drive is not shown with Windows 10.

About information : nuvi 265W, Software Version 7.80, Audio Version 1.10, GPS SW Version 4.10b

Well

First check it's recognised by your PC, does it appear as a removable drive in Explorer? Or is that what you meant? If so it's likely to be a bad cable or an issue with your usb ports. Try other ports and if you have USB3 as well as USB2 try the latter as you have an old device.

restart

Unplug the nuvi from the computer. Restart the computer and restart the nuvi. Plug it in again.

I agree with sussamb that USB3 can be a problem, and some PCs only have USB3 ports.

Windows 10 & Nuvi Devices

As far as I know with my Nuvi 2699, you won't see remove device because it is not your traditional usb store device. you will see your Nuvi in File explore as a device under "This PC". you can access your microSD card as well as internal storage there.
As for your baseCamp, you might be missing Garmin driver. In which case, you start BaseCamp, select "Device" select "Check for Device Software Update". A "WebUpdater" window should appears. Find device button, and hopefully, it will get the drivers you need in basecamp. Good Luck.

Well ...

The OPs device is an older one, that will only connect in mass storage mode, so doesn't use mtp mode like your 2699

The problem is not with the cable or USB port as both work fine with my nuvi 2689

mass storage mode

How do I set Basecamp or Computer for mass storage mode

You don't

It's the device you set not your PC or BaseCamp and as I said above yours is in mass storage mode, older devices don't have a mtp mode like modern ones.

If you're sure it's not the cable or usb port then perhaps it's an issue with the socket on your nuvi?

Socket on your nuvi

If it is a socket issue, can the nuvi still be charged from the computer. My nuvi 245 has weak batteries (short storage time) but can be charged connected to the computer>

Garmin support

Garmin has improved their support pages. The one for "Device not Detected" even has a video:

https://support.garmin.com/en-US/?contactOverride=true&faq=l...

Just checking

Using the same computer and cable, are your Nuvi 2595, Nuvi 2689 recognized but the 295W isn't? That could rule out a lot and indicate a problem with the 295W or its socket. From the Garmin video linked in the previous reply, does the 295W's battery have a good charge?

Behavior with Garmin Express??

How is the communication behavior with Garmin Express? If it connects and you see it in the Windows 10 hierarchy then that would rule out hardware issues like cabling, device socket, etc.

By the way, with my 265W I do "see" the Garmin in the Windows 10 Pro File Explorer. It appears as "Garmin nuvi" and the drop down menu (right click) includes "Eject" which functions as expected.

Behavior with Garmin Express

I went into Garmin Express and the GPS Nuvi 265W was a choice among all my GPS's.

I upgraded the software and this GPS then became compatible with Basecamp.

Thanks everyone for your replies and comments.

Well done, sir
