Garmin Express 6.7.1 for Windows

Garmin Express Release Notes
Garmin rolled out Garmin Express v6.7.1 for the PC today. If you would like to update to the latest version, please visit the About page within the Settings of the Express application and select “Check for Updates to Express.” This version includes the following changes:

Fixed a crash that would occur after updating Express to v6.7.0. The crash happens when the user tries to launch Express.

Important Notes:

If you are running v6.5.1 currently, you will not be impacted by this update. This prevents the crash from happening.
If you have updated to v6.6.0 or v6.7.0, but are able to launch Express successfully, you are not impacted by this issue. We still highly recommend updating, however.
If you have updated to v6.7.0, and are experiencing the crash, you must download Express from our website: http://www.garmin.com/express
You do not have to uninstall Express before downloading from the website.

That's twice in a couple months for a next-day update, isn't it?

Ah

Ah, overlooked that part. For me, it's also true that If you have updated to v6.7.0, and are [not!] experiencing the crash, you still must download Express from our website: http://www.garmin.com/express

Yes, if (as it seems most of us who've already updated here) we updated to 6.7.0 without a crash, you can't go to GE's Check For Updates as it'll report 6.7.0 is up-to-date. Regardless of their recommendation to update to 6.7.1 manually, I think I'll skip it. After all, 6.8.0 or maybe 6.9.0 should be out in the next couple of weeks maybe followed by the 6.x.1 within the following day or two. wink

GE

As already reported, if you check the Garmin Express installed to your computer for the update. It will show you have the latest one. That being 6.7.0. Not sure how you could manually install 6.7.1. Went to the Garmin Express support site, and downloaded Garmin Express exe from there. Same results 6.7.0 is up to date.

Something's messed up

GE says up-to-date and so does the downloaded file when run. I'm currently at 6.6.0.0

Me too

Updated wife's maps to 2019.20 this morning and express updated to
6.6.0.0. Just checked again and so far it still says "you're up to date"
No biggy

But
I just noticed Garmin Express no longer runs as part of Windows Services. Did a reboot just to be sure. I never liked that it auto started so i always went in and set it to manual. Used to have to start it up before trying to run express. Not sure when that changed but lately i could start it by just loading express, didn't have to go into services anymore.
In settings there is a option which i don't know if it was there prior to 6.6.0.0
"Always keep Garmin Express running in the background"

Yeah!

That change log for Express 6.7.1 is a real mystery. Did Garmin find more problems and pull both 6.7.0 and 6.7.1? I am still using old. old version 5.5.0 as my "daily driver" because it is the last version that still works on my Vista laptop. But I did try to update my wife's desktop Win 10 machine (which has Express v 6.6.0). I tried to update within Express and also by downloading the installer as Garmin recommended in their release notes. Both methods say 6.6.0 is up to date. Go figure!

Still says I'm up to date

I updated the other day to 6.7.0.0. Just checked now and it says I'm up to date.

I didn't have the crash, so evidently I'm not affected by it, so I'm not too worried about it.

Garmin Nuvi 2450

Still says I'm up to date

......yeah ... me too ... No problems with the 6.7.0.0 install and more importantly, no crashes either......

Thanks for the information.
V 6.7.0.0 was released on 8/10, now Garmin releases 6.7.1.0 on 8/11.

Doesn't anybody check the releases issued before making the software available for accuracy?

Well ...

I suspect they do but Express doesn't just deal with automotive devices. It has to handle all the Garmin sports watches, bike and walking GPS, golf watches, dive watches etc etc and do it on numerous different builds of Macs and PCs using various OS, many of which are not kept up to date by their users. The combinations are endless so I'm surprised when a day goes by without an update wink

Locks Up

I have tried several times after removal with Revo Unistall pro. I always get 6.6 and it always locks up.

Got the same

message as others about 6.6.0.0 indicating "your up to date".

Glad it wasn't just me

On my Windows based laptop it keeps telling 6.6 is up to date. Interesting...

Just curious

How do people have a crash with GE?
I only use it when it's time to update my map and as we all know that's a long time between.

That's the main problem with Express and it was from very beginning. Version after version had problems, sometimes requiring manual changes in Windows registry. It's still happens from time to time.

My Express updated automatically without warning me, that newer version doesn't work on Vista anymore. So now I can't start it. And there is no access to version compatible with Vista. But I can always buy new Windows 10 for small price of $140. Such a "small" price to run maintenance software that is free. Other programs have no problems with informing that update isn't compatible with OS and give you choice to not update.

Using Garmin Express on Vista

Although it is a bit cumbersome, there is a way to keep the last version of Garmin Express that works on Vista (V 5.5.0.0) and use it to update maps. I have been doing this successfully with my Vista laptop since map version 2018.30. I did a write up about it in another thread. Here is the link: http://www.poi-factory.com/node/47655?page=0#comment-459372

You can still get the 5.5.0.0 Garmin Express installer from the Perry site if you no longer have it: http://gawisp.com/perry/garmin_uilities/GarminExpressInstall...

In brief, what you need to do to avoid the automatic update of Garmin Express is:
1) Disconnect your Internet before launching the old version of Express.
2) Wait a minute after Express starts, then reenable your Inernet connection.
3) Proceed with the map update using old Express version.

GE

Just downloaded GE direct from Garmin and when I check the properties it tells me it's v.6.6.0.0
So how is it that we already have v.6.7.00 and Garmin still floggs an older version?
