2598LMT Update Issues

Hi All,
Suddenly the unit is not "updating".

I called Garmin support and they attempted 2 remote updates downloads via my PC and they failed as well.

The rep. informed me in order to resolve this issue they would have to charge me $50.00 because I was connecting to their server... WHAT???
Now I'll admit his English was poor but I asked him to repeat it and that's what he told me.

Anyone else experience that non-sense?

Any suggestions?

TIA,

Out of warranty?

Were they talking about an out-of-warranty repair/replace of the unit? Or were they charging you for an online support case? I have never heard of Garmin charging for the latter.

What type of update are you trying to do? Map update? Software update? Using Garmin Express? What kind of failure are you getting during the update? Incomplete download? Error message?

What are..

you trying to update? The maps? The firmware? How are you updating the unit, using what software? What specific error message is displayed?

No problems installing the latest maps to my 2598 using Garmin Express.

Been Busy :)

Thanks for the replies, I've been too busy, I took the trip without the map update, no problems.

After successfully updating the FW & SW, I was trying to update to the latest maps.
I kept getting a unknown error when trying to update (d/l) the new maps.
I just went back to Garmin Express
The current maps are NA 2014.10 adn now it shows my maps are up to date.
Last time it indicated there were new maps.

This all started when I went to do an edit with Basecamp 4.6.2
I just tried again and got "Could not connect to server.

You may have been caught by Garmin's definition of lifetime update if your current map is really 2014.10:

https://www.garmin.com/us/maps/numaps_lifetime

specifically in the footnotes:

A product will be deemed to be out of service and its useful life to be ended if no updates have been downloaded for such product for a period of 24 months or more.

2014.10 was released June 12, 2013:

I've often thought about Garmins latest policy of not updating maps of 24 months or more if they actually enforce it.
I see many people on Ebay selling Gamin GPS's and most don't indicate what map version they come with. I'd be really pissed off if I couldn't update the map since the seller failed to upgrade the maps after the 24 months period.

I'm wondering if this is the case with member 05Glide's inability to upgrade his maps or is it a problem with his software.

That's why

I update three Garmins religiously with the new maps so I don't get caught in the 24 months dilemma!
Only time I cannot update is when I'm in Mexico for the winter. No computer, just iPad.
