Door-to-Door vs Logical Addressing

I have seen some posts about Door-to-Door and Logical Addressing. Can somebody please clarify the difference in these two terms for me, if any.

Also, what is the benefit of these features?

Let me give you an example of what would really help me. From time to time I need to go to an address that is spray painted on the cinder blocks of a new home. It is in the county's street directory, but it has not yet made its way to Garmin maps. Since streets are usually pre-mapped with ranges of addresses, will Garmin be able to get me to the general vicinity of the new house, even though the actual address has not yet been loaded to Garmin? And finally, if so, is it true only with the D2D and/or Logical addressing feature that this is possible?

I hope that this is clear to you. It's a little involved. Thank you so much.

Guesses

Skywaytraveller, here are my thoughts (actually guesses) about your question. I doubt that the question can be answered because we're missing information that may vary from developer to developer, county/city to count/city, etc.

In a new development, the information is created by the developer, then sent to the city/county who maintains the map files, then to Here, and finally to Garmin.

Maybe someone in a city/county map office can offer more, but I wonder if developers first send their survey results with new streets and street names to the city or county, followed later by address ranges for each, and finally, the individual parcel boundaries for each street for street address numbering—or do they send street name, and actual parcel locations for addresses all at once? Whatever is done may also vary from region to region, developer to developer, etc. so that what's true in one development may not be true in another.

What we can assume, I think, is that a Garmin GPS will not be able to find an address until its map (and therefore Here's map and the city/county map) have street names and address ranges for each street, block by block. With this information, logical addressing will get you near (at least in the same block as) the address you want. Without an address range, a Garmin Search will either fail or only identify the entire street. With parcel boundaries known and addresses assigned and sent to the city county, then Here, then Garmin, door-to-door addressing should take you to the correct address.

@SkywayTraveler

Just a suggestion. Sometimes you will find a address may be missing from the Garmin (Here Maps) .Check Google Maps,Google Earth or other mapping products that provide location and coordinates. They may be more updated with the needed information . If the address is not found try to establish coordinates by moving around on the map to obtain the correct coordinates. Once you have the coordinates input them into the GPS and save as a favorite or add to a custom poi file

Clarification of d2d table

The "nuvi2400 series" is listed in the list as having d2d mapping. Does that mean that my nuvi2450LM has it? I'm confused, because it has nuvi2405, nuvi2407 and nuvi2408 listed later. Perhaps nuvi2400 does not mean nuvi24xx, but only nuvi2400 exactly?

I wish Garmin would have better named their series. sad

When used as I believe they should be, the 2400 series should be written as the 24x0 series. This is different than the 2405 series which should be called the 24x5 series, etc.

At times, folks try to be correct and call a series the 24xx series but that's a problem since the final digit changes the specs of the various series.

To answer your question, your 2450 (and my 2460) are or at least should be part of the 2400 series.

Door to Door

I wonder if there is a list out there somewhere that shows all the Garmin units with Door to Door?

How about ...
