660, though limping, still impressing neighbors

Few days ago, in conversation with Neighbor .... How to get to this location????...
"Why don't you borrow my GPS?"
I programmed the destination in 660, and showed him how to get past the password on power up, Select a saved destination, and after he got there, how to select our "Home"....

Got it back yesterday.... Worked fine!

This GPS, Running map off SD Drive; has scrambled boot directories and file names--but somehow still boots and finds the files it needs to run. Long ago had broken rear Interface where power used to connect; Now gets power to run from USB port and 'modified' USB Cable, and display is a bit dim, and slightly red from age....

But the darn thing just keeps on going! A couple of times we discussed replacing it with a new unit.... It just keeps on impressing us with it's ability to limp along!

It takes a licking...

...and keeps on ticking.

If you're too young for this quote, it was said by John Cameron Swayze on television (black and white, of course) ads for Timex watches.

ticking

You made me laugh with that one.

By the way, many (all?) of these TV ads were done live! I believe there was one where the Timex was affixed to the propellor of an outboard motor, then submerged in a water-filled tank and the engine started up. When JCS powered it down to retrieve the watch and show it still ticking, the watch could not be found. He may have even cursed on TV at that point.

For the younger folks reading this, I must point out that this was a time when watches were worn on a wrist.

:)

Remember it, as well as

Remember it, as well as Super Circus, and Figure 8 Races at Soldier's Field and when the ABC Station was WENR instead of WLS.
And I also saw when WBKB transmitted Experimental Color TV, when some joker painted the Banana Purple, but left Orange, Apple, and Lemon's alone!

Reminds Me Of

This thread reminds me of the American Tourister luggage commercial with the gorilla from the early 70's. LOL

It's a classic.

I

think ours only lasted about 4 years, I felt gypped, still do, paid $300. So what did I do, buy another Garmin. Well, I suppose over 9 years, maybe more, it was worth it. Won't buy another, no need, so I guess both served their intended purposes. If the 2350LMT lasted only 4 yrs, then I'd be unhappy.
