Restaurants on the map

I've got the Garmin Drive 50, how the hell do I remove the restaurant and other unwanted symbols on the screen, it's showing every thing from fast food to full restaurants............

In simple language I can understand, with photo's if possible....

Welcome

Welcome to The Factory.

From the main menu display, tap Settings, Map & Vehicle, then Map Layers. Select or deselect the layers, then tap Save. That should do the trick.

You may also want to download the Owners Manual for your device:

Not sure about all the Drive models but on the DriveLuxe 50 the Owners Manual is in the Garmin/Documents folder on the device. There is an English, French and Spanish version stored there in PDF format.

It appears that you can't "deselect" individual icon types but only change which ones are shown. You can however turn them all off by taping the Up Ahead Places entry on the Map Layers page to get rid of the checkmark. Note however, that in the past doing that turned off the display of custom POI icons as well.

Yes, and it's sad. When I got my 3597 with the same issue, I deselected all the icons. I wonder if mickg123 will be like me when I later missed having my custom POIs so I re-enabled all.

Fix.

Garmin COULD fix this by making a separate layer for Custom POI's. They could but they won't.

An extra 5 minutes

That would take a whole 5 minutes of programming time. I can see the stock holders complaining.

......or the programmers don't actually use their own units, so they don't understand how this would actually be a good thing.

......or the people who pay to have their places shown would be unhappy.

......or all of the above.

AND THE GOOD NEWS IS

I took the DriveLuxe 50 out this afternoon and I'm happy to report that even with the "Up Ahead Places" entry unticked, the GPS did in fact show my Custom POI icons on the map screen.

It's about time Garmin fixed that. Wonder if we will see it on the 3597 anytime soon. Probably not. sad

No profit in it.

No profit for Garmin to fix things on discontinued products. They would rather have you buy a current device. Problem is ... they keep taking things away that we like, so it is a mixed bag.

Maybe they will surprise me with something I really want, but right now, I think the 3597 will be my last Garmin.
